Hi everyone, for those of you who don't already know me, I'm Wil Kitchens.

I first started roadracing with the CMRA in 2009, and had a mildly successful year - we finished 3rd overall in the C Superbike Endurance Series. 2010 was a much more successful season, seeing me win three races, take an overall class championship in Clubman, and finish third overall for the year in my other two classes. 2011 started off great, with a second-place finish at the first round, but the rest of the 2011 season saw mechanical failures and several surgeries to deal with nerve damage in my hands from a crash in 2009. HOWEVER, by the last round in October, I was back and ready to race again - I traded my 'old' racebike for an Aprilia SXV450 two days before the final race of the year, and without ANY prior tracktime other than a few laps for morning practice, managed to throw the SXV across the finish line in 4th place in the Unlimited Motard race.

Finding the Aprilia to be more fun than a garbage bag full of $1 bills at a strip club, I started looking to find out what other sorts of badassedry I could get myself into on the Aprilia, and that's when my good friend Mark Niemi told me about the Pike's Peak International Hillclimb. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, also known as The Race to the Clouds, is an annual automobile and motorcycle hillclimb to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado, covering a distance of 19.99 km (12.42 mi) over 156 turns, climbing 1,439 meters (4,721 ft) from the start at Mile 7 on Pikes Peak Highway at 2,862 meters (9,390 ft) on grades averaging 7% over historically both gravel and paved sections - however as of August 2011, the highway is fully paved and as a result all subsequent runnings will be on tarmac from start to finish. This is awesome, especially for someone like me coming from a roadracing background.

The race is on the FIA International Events Calendar and has featured competition from United States rally sanctioning body SCCA ProRally in 2004 and Rally America in 2005. It has taken place since 1916 and is currently contested by a variety of classes of Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles and Quads. There are often numerous new classes tried and discarded year-to-year. On average there are 150 competitors - a mere 20 competitors started the race for the 450 class in 2011. The 2012 race is scheduled for Sunday, July 8, and there will be race-related events all week long at Pike's Peak.

Here's the best part of it all - it's expected to draw over 35,000 spectators.

Having said that, now is a great time for ANYONE to consider getting on board to sponsor and support me in the upcoming hill climb.

"But how will ME sponsoring YOU make ME money?" you may ask yourself - and with an economy that's in the toilet and the national debt at an all-time high, that's a VERY good question. Billboard and media advertising is RIDICULOUSLY expensive, nobody reads pamphlets and fliers that are passed out, and people are now able to record and fast forward through their favorite television shows with the sole purpose of skipping the commercials - how on EARTH are you supposed to get your product out there?

Me. That's how.

Yup. That simple.

Support me, and I'll do everything in my power to make sure every single person that I run into during my quest to conquer The Mountain will know who you are and how awesome your product is. My picture and information will be printed in the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb program. I'll put your logo on my racing leathers that I'll be wearing. I'll slap your logo on the back of my trailer, which will be seen by COUNTLESS drivers on the 2000-plus mile round-trip to Colorado and back on SEVERAL occasions, not to mention the time it'll spend parked around the paddock there - it's like a super-cheap billboard for YOU, that's GUARANTEED to be seen by THOUSANDS, if not TENS of THOUSANDS of people! I'll also mention you in any and every 'sponsor list', slap your logo on every photo of myself that'll be flooding the internet, list you on my website, and mention you in any and every interview that I'll be given.

What's that? You're interested, but you don't make any products related to racing? Doesn't matter! I don't care if you manufacture super-flow maxi pads - support me, and everyone that's got Aunt Flo in the car with her that gets stuck behind my 'not to exceed the speed limit' race trailer will get an eyeful of YOUR super-flow maxi pad company's logo for as long as she's stuck behind me!

Maybe you don't have a company, you don't have funds or materials around to offer up to help, but you'd still like to help out somehow? No problem, every little bit counts! Gas cards, frequent flier miles, toothbrushes, bottled water - anything and everything helps, and I'll be absolutely sure to list and thank each and every person who makes this possible for me. Now, if you've got an extra $5 sitting in your PayPal account, and you were about to donate it to a charity for starving kids in Cambodia but are now considering helping out a racer, BY ALL MEANS feed those kids! I don't want to take anything away from someone who's more deserving of it - but in that same breath, I won't turn any shape or form of sponsorship/support away!

Even if you can't, won't, don't want to, or just don't care - forward this to your friends, because maybe they will! Pass this around on other message boards, on your Facebook, anything you want to do to help out is appreciated!

There is absolutely no other race course in the world like the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and that is why it attracts race crews that are willing to spend several hundred thousand dollars and months of preperation to compete for the right to be the King of the Mountain - and 2012 is going to be MY year! Hop on board today, and let's Send Wil To The Peak!!

have you ever been to pike's peak?

this is something you should seriously consider especially considering the 156 turns, most of which equate to death if you fuck up

beautiful mountain, and i'm sure the road is much better now that the whole thing is paved
when i was there it was partial paved. good luck and be safe

yea, his safety record was the main reason i wrote that
except on pike's peak, your crashes always end in fireballs of wreckage, not just sometimes

how do you plan on handling the change in elevation and temperature as far as air/fuel?

i think i was there in late july/early august and its fucking cold as hell

We're going to set the tire pressures so that they'll be 'optimal' slightly higher than halfway up the course. The bike is fuel injected, so it'll compensate on its own a bit, but for the most part it'll be mapped for the higher altitude, so it'll be a bit rich on the bottom of the hill but will even out as I get higher up top. It's better to be rich down low than lean up top.

wish i could help out, but there's just no money to do so. sorry man.

Money doesn't matter. Even if it's something as simple as copy-and-pasting this thread - or even just the picture - on another forum....like it on Facebook. Anything helps!

Once I can get to a computer I'll donate to the cause bro.

Edit, scratch that, I'll be able to paypal you some monies soon bro, just need to remember my paypal password lol...

I'll send some money once I get my safety glass refund back. :)

Not quite sure what Hilton Points are, but if they're able to be used towards a hotel or lodging of some sort, absolutely!

Really? You need to sign up for every single hotel chain loyalty program that you can- those points add up to freebies pretty fast. The 6 days I spent in Nagoya back in November is good for 3 days of free hotel rooms in the Hilton network.

Good stuff. :D

Some can also be used towards gas gift cards or gift cards to a ton of retailers.
