I bought a 1995 honda civic ex with a b16a and hydro tranny running on a p30 for 1500 bucks not bad right.. well when the guy brought the car to my house he said all it need was some touch ups.. when he took me for a spin he had to roll start it and when it started up it backfired but ran. We hit a stop sign and he had to roll it because he said if we stopped the car would die. So i was like whatever i could fix that. The shell was clean and i new the engine was clean too. So i bought it. So then i was like it could be the TPS. So i bought a new one and installed it. checked the spark plugs.. look new, changed the fuel injectors, fuel reg. Still nothing only other thing i can think of is the iacv. please help

See like you bought a headache (aka project)

Take the iacv off and clean it with carb cleaner
Check pcv too cuz it could be clogged
Check rotor on distributor too

if u stop it dies? so basicly u need to give it gas then put it in gear? sounds to me like the dizzy timing mite be off, retarted or advacned... also check the idle screw on the TB mite also be an issue?

Anything else?

I took it off and sprayed it with carb cleaner havent put it back on but i have a feeling thats not going to me if. Blow head gasket or piston rings could be was well???

Hopefully it is the IACV or something simple like a sensor or something simple nothing like a blown head gasket or a piston rings needing to be replaced going to do a compression test tommorrow

The issue is not about the head gasket if it drives normal but idles badly (although you may have multiple problems)

Cap and ROTOR on the distributor. Check the contact points and see if you need to replace the distributor.

Still...

i put the iacv on jumped the car and turned on now the first time i try to put it in reverse the car died. i turned it back on disconnected the tps turned it off and back on no idle problems but when i put it in reverse it jerked like wanting to die and since i live on a hill when i put it in 1st car wanted to die again and i gased it so it would stay on from there. i got to 3 gear until i hit a stop sign. downshifted and tryed to completely stop but i had to hold the clutch at the stop sign and then stuck into 1st again and still gased it and died x3 until i tryed it for the last time and it ran and drove it home I have a big problem and i dont know what it is. Also when the car was running i opened the hood and it sounded like a cutting noise i think valves are going bad or i dont know ... what do you guys think HELP!!!!

could be spark nock, like I said, your distributor, the black thing with wires coming out of it to the top of yea head. un screw the 3 8mm bolts on it, check the contact points. Sounds like u ether have bad wires, plugs or a dizzy all together, or I have seen this happen before when the gas was bad in the car. how long did it sit before he took u for a drive in it? I had a prelude sit out side my house for a year sold it to a friend and it did similar things because he tried to run the 93 octane that was in it for over a year sitting

Yeah I think the timing is severely out. Make sure the marks on the cams and crank pulley match up, then set the timing with a gun from there. It can get tricky on a DOHC motor.

Why dont you do a full tune up...replace the plugs/wires/dizzy cap/rotor/etc. It would probably be a good idea since you dont know how long it has been since the guy you bought it from has done one. After that you will be able to rule those options out and it does not cost much to do a tune up.

things i fixed on my car

What I have replaced and still nothing

Dist rotor and cap
Fuel injectors
Fuel regulator
Tps
Changed p30 to p28
New battery
Cleaned pvc
Cleaned iacv

What else should i check?

Have you checked the timing? Have you checked the idle screw? The IACV looks extremely dirty and could be bad even if you cleaned it. Have you battery tested the IACV? Have you replaced the fuel filter? Have you checked the spark plugs and wires? Have you check the fuel pressure? What is the compression?

Ive checked the spark plugs im checking compression the weekend coming up wires are new and that is rigt when i took it off and i did test it before i put it back on. Im going to check the fuel filter tommorrow and checking fuel pressure tommorrow im guessing its going to be timing i dont know how to do that though
