VIP
1995 Rio Grande Wrangler
Mileage-143k
Automatic
Good
-Looks good in pictures (Probably seeing it tomorrow)
-Comes with tons of stuff (Hard top, soft top, full doors, half doors)
Bad
-4cyl version
-Trans is slipping

Personally I don't care that it's a 4cyl. I've driven a 4 banger Jeep before and they can still get out of their own way. Difference is about 55hp. The fact that it is a 4 might actually help me with the trans. Can't imagine the trans for the 4 is as popular as the trans for the 6. Not to mention the 6 trans for this year is notoriously bad.

It's nearby so I can probably limp it home without the need to get a tow. But back to the reason for the thread. What would you pay? IDK if there are a lot of Jeep guys around here, but can't hurt to ask. He's asking $1k. I think it's worth that all day, but should I try to lowball him or just take the deal at hand?

if its in as good of condition as it appears in the pictures, im sure you can come out ahead with it. a used or rebuilt trans will likely be less than 1k and im thinking that a good looking, good running 95 jeep will be worth $3-4k at least.

Its a YJ, they are known for rust around the steering box and rear spring perches, make sure to check that out as well as lift the carpet in the footwells to check if the tub is rusted. The auto trans arent that hard to find and I do believe that certain year Dakota trannys are the same. Around here people get $250 all day for full doors (in good shape) and about $800 for hard tops. Post some pic of it if you can. Would like to see it, most YJs around here are in the $2-3k range and pretty roached.

Somebody looking at it tomorrow AM. I'm seeing it at night if it's not gone.

To me, it looks like a Jeep that never saw much off-road, maybe the beach. Guys claiming there is quite a bit of interest. I may try to deal, but if it all checks out, I have no problem paying the full amount.

No, they can't. lol
We must have different definitions of "get out of its own way". I never felt the need to floor it. To me, that means it's powerful enough.
It's probably worth a G. The tops are a couple hundred alone.
Definitely worth it in parts. I'm not worried there. Rather not have to do that though.

Take $1,000. Offer him $800 cash, and have it out in your hand where he can see it. Make it $20s so it looks like a stack. Don't let him see the other $200. Keep it hidden away.

Then stick to your guns and stay close to $800. Even if he flat ass refuses it, you have the thousand and can pick it up anyway. Worth every penny.

The automatic would turn me off entirely. I had a friend who picked one of these up in sorry shape for 350, and turned around and sold it for a grand. Literally did nothing to it except broke the frame more. They hold their value disgustingly well... but if I were in the market for a Jeep, I would look for something a little rougher, with a 5 speed.

My bro who is the hartford cop had a 2008 4 door unlimited. biggest POS ever...thing had no balls, literally no fucking balls at all, it was a manual tranny, horrible riding car.

My brother-in-law(future) has a 2008 sahara 4door, trans replaced twice and he grandmas the dam thing from southington to chesire which is like a 10 mile commute, its is Auto and again, zero nut for power on those things.

i know this is a 1995 but i would steer clear of the 4 bagner

i can't even imagine a 4cyl jeep.

After seeing the pictures I would have no problem paying a grand for that as long as the frame isnt rusted, IIRC they galvinized the frames on the 95s. You could put the hard top and full doors on it and turn around and sell it for $2k easy.

What I planned on doing. Sadly the guy who saw it before me grabbed it. Knew I should have tried to see it last night.

I consider Jeep pre-Liberty a completely different company. They make a bunch of cookie cutter garbage now.

My friends have had Jeeps (Wranglers) forever. I've driven all types. Clearly the 5spds are more fun to drive, but the autos are fine too. Actually never drove a 4cyl auto. This would have been my first. But a 4cyl 5spd was a blast. No Jeep is overly powerful. They max out around 80mph on the highway. They get mediocre gas mileage. But driving a Jeep is a blast.

I'm bit now, I want one. I've been a party-to them for too long. But I'm in no rush, I'll wait around for another deal like this one. Pretty much because I don't have the cash to just go out and buy whatever is out there. I need the deal, haha.

i dunno...with 123hp and 139tq in a 3000lb vehicle, might be better off pushing it around....certainly off roading is not an option

The new 4 doors are ugly as fuck. If the frame is good on it I would pick it up.

My boss at the shop I work at has a 4 banger in his Wrangler and it is strictly offroad use only, it goes every where my Cherokee does and more.

35s stock 4.10 gearing it pulls itself just fine. :D
