!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!i!
Next week, on valentines day, I have a date with the courthouse. I haven't had a date on valentines day in quite a while, but none the less I need to be sure we do not see each other any more after next Tues.

Any tips for not getting selected? I do not want to be held in contempt of court or get in any trouble. Thanks!

on the jury duty form when asked "Race and Ethnicity" i replied with "Human and American"
i was not even interviewed and was sent home shortly after lunch with my papers saying ive fulfilled my obligation for the next 3 years

kinda bummed... i actually wanted to serve on a jury :(

Any relation to any law enforcement type people? Or lawyers and such? If so that may be a way out.

you could always move to another country?

you don't want to help decide some lowlife's fate? i LOOOOVE JD.

Ive never been summoned but it has always seemed to me if you sound like you know what your talking about both the defense and prosecutor will send you packing. I dont think they really want independent minded people but jurors who can be manipulated a little easier.

just tell them you work in a small business and they really can't go for more than a day without you.
self-employed "might" work, but i think the general terminology is "do you have any scheduling conflicts that could prevent you from fulfilling your obligation" for example the trial might be expected to take 5 days, can you make all five days
or tell them your mom was affected by a similar crime and you feel you would be biased.

unfortunately it might take more than 1 day for you to get a chance to even explain your situation.

be very careful with your wording or they will just postpone your service to another date
ie: i'm an accountant and its a busy time of year, ok we'll put your name back on the list.

If you do get selected i would watch Runaway Jury for a good documentary on how the whole thing works.

Find a way to champion jury nullification. I PROMISE you you will be dismissed on the spot, and never selected again. Seriously.

If you do that and get selected again before Hondaswap.com goes away I will send you $100.

not sure about where you are, but in tn if you work for a company that has less than 5 (or so) employees then you are automatically exempt from jury duty.

if there are more than that, they employer can call in or write in saying that they cannot have you missing a day because you are too vital to day to day ops and that will get you dropped too.

if you are self employed then you arent obligated to do jury duty here because one day can be a big deal.

spend $10?

self employment is NOT an excuse to get off jury duty, at least in CT.

wearing 'colors' will get you arrested for contempt, which doesn't help him make commissions, as most prisoners don't need apt's anymore...

Honestly, be yourself. Act smart (as in intelligent). They don't want you. If you have any idea what or who is on trial, mention that you saw it on the news and already have an opinion of what happened. They want to stupid people who's opinions can be swayed one way or another by lawyers and don't what actually happened..

The odds are 11/200 going in, so it's already slim.

the one time i got called in for jury duty.. i told them that my opinion would be biased because my cousin was killed by a black male that was never caught (which is actually true).. never been called in again, they've sent notices.. but i havent had to go sit and wait for a long time, since i was 18-19yrs old

luckily ive never had to go. i was called a few times while in college. i just told them i was out of state for school and they exempted me. then like last year i got a letter, was on standby and my number wasnt called so i didnt have to go. sorry it doesnt help lol

Last time I had jury duty, all I had to do was show up to the courthouse Monday morning and they said "thanks for checking in, you're free to go. If we need you, we will call you. If you haven't heard from us by Thursday night, you won't hear from us for a while"

Never heard from them since and it's been almost 5 years.

I have a family member who is serving long term time. That's my out.

Last time I got a notice I sat through jury selection for 3 days straight. Finally when they interviewed me, I was "pre-selected" then the prosecution attorney excused me.

Trial was a black kid for murder over a bad drug deal. I felt he was guilty just by hearing the charges.. lol
