Ok, so I was also wondering if anyone could help me get ideas on how to get more whp?

right now i have a b20b engine with short ram intake, skunk2 exhaust, Nos ( old owner added it, im taking it off soon) Im thinking about chipping it with the jdm stage 3 chip. I don't know what else to do and not run big $$$$

Im not trying to out run the 300whp range ( waiting to get my toy car for that)but i want something in the 200 whp range to just to make the drive even more fun.

So any idea's??

dont bother with the "stage 3 jdm chip"

get cams
up your compression
get a real tuning program

dont get any sort of chip for your ecu! do exactly like E said, get cams, up the compression, buy a nice header, and dyno tune it. first step would be to find a shop or someone that tunes hondas in your area. talk to them about what they like to tune with, what they sell, etc.

whats wrong with chips?? and well my compression is already up I believe from what a friend says but ya ill go find a shop to talk to.

More details on the chip please. Most of them are garbage. Any chip that promises instant horsepower gains just for soldering it in is most likely a crock of shit. At best, your gains will be minimal. At worst, your engine will run like shit and potentially suffer premature wear because the garbage chip is messing with your A/F ratios. A better and safer solution is having your ECU chipped, reprogrammed, and tuned on a dyno by a professional tuner.

With that said, I think your goals are unrealistic. We're talking about an engine that makes 160 horses AT THE CRANK. Your intake and exhaust are adding practically nothing to your WHP output. Professional tuning isn't even going to get you in the 200 WHP range, let alone some garbage E-Bay chip.

There's a few different ways to go about this. If you want to keep it naturally aspirated, then like the others said, get a quality header, bump the compression, and get some decent performance cams, and then have it tuned on a dyno. You may want to consider upgrading to a VTEC head as well.

Even with all of that though, good luck landing anywhere very far north of 200 WHP. The easier way to get where you want to be would be to invest in a turbo kit. And once again, avoid cheap E-Bay crap. Pay for a quality kit and have it tuned by a professional...

Thanks brutal, and ya I want to keep it naturally aspirated. and I am gonna go out and get cams, header, and talk to the shop about upgrading it to a VTEC.

But to get me farther north of 200 I have to buy a Turbo kit? is there nothing else i can install before i spend few grand on a turbo kit?

Aside from slapping a vtec head on there or at least performance cams.. not really.

Keep in mind most of your power comes from the head.
Hence port polishing/matching ..bigger valves/stonger valve springs etc. ;)

oh ok well that i can get done here soon waiting for my settlement check to come so Im trying to get a list of all the parts I need so I can go out and buy the parts and have em installed and the machining done when i get the cash.

So where does everyone get their parts from?

and if anyone could help out can you help me make a list of parts i am gonna need to buy??

Thats alot to ask..Im thinkin we should all keep our wish lists personal..:D

Not all parts on ebay are garbage...so fucking tired of hearing that.

All "Chips" are not created equal. Phearable.net - Electronic Fuel Injection Tuning Solutions - Hondata, Neptune, Crome, Uberdata, Ectune, AEM, Honda Tuning, Widebands, Fuel Pumps, Intercoolers, Turbos, LS/VTEC, ECU Chipping, Chipped Ecus, P28 has always provided me with excellent base maps for every motor I have built. The last chip John sent me was almost spot on for my modified B18B.

First off, if you are seriously keeping that motor get yourself the JDM P8R head. Instantly you have the same size valves as a B16.

Get some high comp pistons possibly B16 style at 84mm or something else from RS machines "ebay garbage".

Crower and Brian Crower make excellent cams and valvetrains for these motors. Im running their stage 2 B18B na cam.

Hytech copy header you can get from the guy in the vendor section.

310cc injectors

Skunk2, Blox, etc Intake manifold

bigger throttlebody Professional products makes a cheap one or just send an oem unit to be bored by maxbore.com

You might get into the 180+ range with loads of torque and call it a day.

Are you opposed to turbo because you want to keep costs down? Or do you really just prefer N/A? Because you can easily spend thousands on all of these N/A parts we're talking about (quality header, cams, valve train, high comp pistons, etc.) and still not make the same power that you would with a turbo kit. That's been a running joke in the Honda community for many, many years..."N/A is the expensive way to still be slow."

And prepping for turbo and going N/A are two totally different things. If you want to go turbo, then you'd want different cams, different pistons, etc., than you would for an N/A build. You don't build it up to a certain N/A power level and then add boost; that's not how it works.

And yeah, the K-series engines can pretty easily hit 200+ WHP with bolt-ons and tuning, but it's much more difficult with B or D-series...

Oh, I'm on board with that. 90% of all the car parts I've ever purchased have come from E-Bay. Can't beat the prices on name brand stuff, and even some of the no-name stuff is decent; just gotta do your research.

I mostly just wanted to stear him away from that chip he was talking about. When I hear something like "JDM Stage 3 Performance Chip", I don't get the impression that it's a quality, Phearable-type piece, but rather one of those "Solder this in and you'll get an instant 60 horsepower!" type of deals...

No chip is quality unless its after a dyno tune, chips are to get your car to the dyno shop, its not a replacement for a tune.

If you want 200whp why on earth would you remove the nitrous? If you don't want the kit, Send me pics of it and Ill make you a offer.

Get dyno tuned on a 75-100 shot and you will have 200whp

A new, better driver will make your car faster...

idk why i am really staying away from turbo when it does cost more, right now i am just mainly just trying to figure out the best way to get more power for my $$, and for the Nos i am not a big fan of it.
