Dear SCCA Drivers:

Beginning January 1, 2012, Head and Neck restraints will become mandatory in SCCA Club Racing Regional, National and Driver School events. In December 2009, the Board of Directors approved the motion to require a device meeting SFI 38.1 or FIA 8858 specifications, and the announcement appeared in the January 2010 Fastrack® News.

In an effort to have everyone prepared for the new equipment requirement, we have put together the following information. This is by no means comprehensive, and it is not an endorsement of one product over another. Just as when buying a helmet or any other piece of safety gear, each driver is encouraged and expected to do their own research and select the product that they feel best suits their needs.

Why is SCCA requiring a head and neck restraint system?
Testing and data support that use of head and neck restraints greatly reduce the possibility of severe injury or death in specific racecar accidents.

Which products are approved?
Like many of its equipment requirements, SCCA recognizes both SFI 38.1 (SFI Web Site) and FIA 8858 (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) standards. You can visit these sites to see their approved list of devices. As of Aug. 10, 2011, the following devices are currently approved by SFI or both SFI and FIA:

HANS Performance Products – HANS Device (all series)
Safety Solutions R3 Device
Safety Solutions R3 Rage Device
Safety Solutions Hutchens Hybrid Pro Device
Safety Solutions Hutchens Hybrid Pro Rage Device
Safety Solutions Hutchens Hybrid/Hybrid Rage Device
Safety Solutions Hybrid X Device

Surprised it took them this long. Most organizations already require it.

That's why I bought mine already, and a right side net.

The right side net isn't required yet either....NASA yes with no halo seat.

You know your CCR's. :D

just seems odd for autox events. i understand they do more than that, but it's just been my primary interaction with scca.

Ahh that makes sense. I thought everything was Club Racing since it is the 'Sports car CLUB of America'.

nope, parking lot racing you barely need a helmet :p just kidding, dont all you autox guys come for my head.

FYI, there is a new HnR systems...well kind of new that is SFI compliant now.

It looks like defnder found a loophole and is back under a new design and name.

Meh, the most a cone does is scuff the paint. The most a another car does is kill you and destroy your car.

Just saying, I worry about people thinking it's Forza on track days.

Im not sure where you have watched w2w but typically Forza guys are not at SCCA races in the SE. Most drivers would like to take their cars home.

Dont scare people off with the death comments, people typically die from having heart attacks and not "racing" incidents which is pretty well documented at least in SCCA.

B16 lol, yeah I got booted out of an autox forum not so long ago.

Death!? I'd be more worried about driving to work!

I also play Forza.. :) I love the Infineon track. The elevation changes aren't as accurate in turns 2-4, but the rest is pretty good. :p
