I've been eating a Power Bar Energy bar 30-60 minutes before my Muay Thai sessions and honestly, they get me through the sessions great and I feel great as well.

The problem is, I want to buy some in bulk but I can only find Clif bars in bulk (Sam's Club)

Anyone have experience with Clif bars? Any other bars you'd recommend?

cliff's are kinda nutty for me. If you like nuts, they may be fine for you. BJ's has some bars in bulk at their stores, and you can pretty much buy anything on amazon-- ask me how i know.

I like Clif's bars, but I don't usually get the regular ones. They make a special kind called "Builder's Bars". I've been using those for about a year now, and they're helpful to me and damn tasty to boot...

Cliff bars are pretty popular with Nor. Cal outdoorsy type of people. Ive had them and taste-wise, they arent too bad. It keeps me satisfied and ties me over long fishing trips. I cant comment about the energy though since I dont do very strenuous activities, but given that they provide roughly 15-20% of daily RA for protein and carbs, they should do a good job of providing ample energy.

What's in 100g of chia?

  • Protein: 20.7g
  • Fat: 32.8g
  • Carbohydrate: 41.8g
  • (of which fibre is 41.2g)
  • Calcium: 714mg
  • Iron: 16.4mg
  • Niacin (B3): 613mg
  • Thiamine (B1): 0.18mg
  • Riboflavin (B2): 0.04mg

When I saw your thread before I started this one, I knew you would link it here, lol.

The product seems promising and you ordered some, so let me know how you end up liking it...

So how do you know?

I do like nuts (setting myself up, I know lol) so maybe I will like them...

I see words like that and I stay away. Not because I think they are bad but because the wording makes me think they aren't what i'm looking for. I'm pretty much looking for something light I can eat that will give me energy for my Muay Thai sessions (approx 90 minutes) and not make me feel weighed down. I take my lunch break at work around 12:30. I get off work at 5:30 and Muay Thai starts at 6:30. So by the time I get off work, i'm a little hungry but it's too close to training time to eat something filling.

Am I wrong in thinking I should be looking for just words like "energy"?

Yea I'm looking forward to trying it out. Looks like you can do all sorts of things with it.

Read the labels...all of those fucking things, especially CLIF bars, are LOADED with soy...nasty fuckin GMO bullshit Monsanto evil rape your children soy...and don't forget soy will promote estrogen development in men and women...bad for both. If you need a boost have a handful of almonds and half a banana.

Put it in a bag in the fridge...fuck I don't know. You get the point.

they make bananna containers for storing half-eats. I don't get it either. Its not like eating a bananna is going to fill you up. If its too much, shop better and buy a smaller bunch.

Chia seeds are great to mix into meals. Don't buy them locally, you can get them online for about 1/10 the cost. As for cliff bars, I usually use them pre workout right after classes and headed into the gym. They do a decent job, taste "Okay", I've had better and far worse. They look gross, and can get melty though. I have the choc chip ones. The peanut butter I tasted once was decent. As for the other flavors, they scare me too much.

Depends on what your goals are...

For a typical person, if they're looking for sustained energy, Clif Bars are probably one of the best bars that you can eat. They have lots of versions with rolled oats or other grains. The macronutrient break down is very carb heavy.

Contrast that with someone who is more focused on building mass and you're going to want to go with a bar that has a higher protein content.

I always stayed away from Power Bars because I feel they're sugary BS. They've changed their formula over the years to be more protein focused and less focused on a ton of sugars for "endurance athletes".

I wouldn't eat a meal that essentially only carbs - so I won't eat bars that are the same thing. I don't even think they're adequate meal replacement bar (Clif or Powerbar) but thats really the only purpose to have the bar.

Now if you're looking for pre & post workout protein, because you're looking to maintain or promote lean mass, then I'd go to a protein powder rather than a bar. This is because most protein bars are also garbage.

Eat half a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread and an apple.

...or they're freaks like myself that use a paleo diet, so the answer to what my pre/post workout meals look like are entirely different from what they were when I was on a traditional diet of high protein/complex carbs/healthy fats.
