It's only stupid if it doesn't work

Bought a new radiator. Not thinking from the last time I replaced it, I bought an auto version(built in tranny cooler). Now, I already have an external tranny cooler because the last time I replaced it (~8 years ago) I got a great deal on an all aluminum radiator with no internal one.

I've read a few threads about people using tranny coolers (both internal and external) as oil coolers, so I have a few options.

1- Just keep the internal capped off. Don't mess with the external at all.
2- Run the internal as an oil cooler. Don't mess with the external at all.
or 3- Run the internal as the tranny cooler. Use the external as an oil cooler.

What do you guys think?

leave it alone. viscous fluid doesn't cool as easily as coolant does. i had this idea with my evo radiator in the mirage... car ended up running stupid hot.

I actually did a lot more searching after making the thread. Yea, I'm just going to leave it alone. At least I didn't pay more for the auto version.

Question. Driver side fan is broken. It's been disconnected since a minor accident. One fan keeps the car just as cool. But should I reinstall the driver side fan on the new rad? Almost as a shroud? Or can I get away with cleaning up the install a little and just installing the one working one?

it should be ok with one fan, lots of people have boosted motors on a half size radiator with one fan (myself included).

i always believed one fan was for AC and the other was for coolant...
AC is cold and car stays at the same operating temp. IDK.

Sounds good to me.

New radiator is in, with only the passenger side fan (bigger of the two actually). Car is running great and stays at a good operating temp (Just under the halfway point on the gauge). Not quite as cool as the dual core aluminum, but that was to be expected, and frankly I'll enjoy not not topping off the system once a week. As for the old aluminum rad, into the scrap pile.

There's always money in the budget for hookers and blow... And Doritos... Those things are delicious.
