Hey everyone I'm not really new to the Honda scene I know a good amount but I want some expert help
I guess you could say. I'm about to go get either another EK hatch (since my first one was stolen -_-) or an EG hatch. I'm looking at making this a DD that can still run around 10-10.5 at the strip on the weekends if I wanted. I have about $12000 I can throw towards this because I was going to buy a FA5 but changed my mind. So I'm trying to choose a motor now and go from there. I have done some research and B18c1/LSD Tranny, H22a/H2B LSD GSR Tranny and maybe a B20 sound like something I want to do. I know K-series is a strong motor but I plan on lowering it and I know that there is a clearance issue there. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will do a build thread to show progress when it starts. Thanks guys

I mean I still want to drive it but it doesn't have to be an every day deal. I have another car that I can drive but I want to have fun on the street with it also. I was at IREV at MIR this weekend and they had true street cars running around 10-10.5.

$12k huh.. have fun throwing your money away.. IMO, buy a classic car and toss your money at that... at least you'll get it back plus possibly more when you sell it

If I wanted to do that I would have never posted asking what options on a Honda. I don't want a classic right now down the road after a few years maybe but not now. Money isn't important to me I just want to have fun with this build. I make good money for my age and I don't have anything to hold me back so I want my adrenaline fix again. I used to race 4 wheelers but injuries made me stop doing that competively.

honestly, if i was dead set on a honda, i'd be stalking the classifieds looking for a car all done. In the 12k price range, you can get yourself a turbo k-series swapped hatched stanced out and the whole 9. but you sure can't build it for that.

If driving is the goal, and not the joy of building/having a project, that's the route i'd take.

But if i had 12 grand, i wouldn't buy a honda. Lots of nice S4s and M3s at that price point these days. Sure they won't run 10s or even 12s, but they are much fun to drive, are classy, and bitches get 32.8% wetter when you say you have a bm over a honda if they ask what you drive.
And you don't really have to worry about it getting stolen again.

Ya thanks B but I honestly want to build one up from the ground. I have never built a car before but I have built motorcycles, seadoos and atvs and I just love the feeling of hearing it start when you're done for the first time. I'm sure it will take a lot of money and time but I'm ok with that. I'm looking for the best options to start out with and go from there. The 12k doesn't have to be the end price I'm willing to go its just what I have that's expendable right now. Thanks for the help

To make a Civic run ten seconds, you're going to need a shit ton of power or a shit ton of weight reduction, or both. Either way, it's not really going to be much fun on the street (traction problems galore). If you want it to be fun on the street, then I'd set a reasonable power goal instead of a quarter mile time goal...

Ya I was talking to someone about that last night a little. I mean I'm not fimiliar with what's too much or how big I can go. I planned on gutting the car doing recaro front seats and but I don't know what else. Any suggestion? Thanks

To go 10's in a ~2000 lb car (a pretty much completely gutted hatch with oem windows/etc), you need about 550 whp, and traction all the way down. 600whp will make it easier.

250whp will burn 4th gear on street tires.

I understand the want, and the desire to build, but 10's is FUCKING FAST. it's no joke. That's veryon territory. lol and it has 8 turbos and 32432432 intercoolers.

The deisre to build is understandable, but if you can, drive one of these higher powered cars first.

I know the first time i ripped aorund in my del sol, which only put 300 whp out on the 11 lbs i had it at at that time, almost threw mike out the window when the turbo hit full spool and vtec came on at the same time. And he can vouch for that. lol

Haha damn dude sounds like a fun ride. I have driven a lot of fast cars from a turboed nismo 350 to a twin turboed supra and just a lot of other ones I just love speed and it's something about the Honda scene I love. People who are involved in the scene love it and won't trade their cars for nothing. I want to be around that stuff. And ya I guess I never understood how much would have to happen to accomplish what I wanted to do and still be able to have fun on the streets. So I guess my next question would be what kind of motor could give me the power I want with reliability at the same time? I have been reading on certain forums that people are doing k24s with a k20 head or b20 with ls head to make it vtec. I want reliability but I want power also. Any suggestions. Thanks for the insight B

Havent dealt with them directly, but if your Budget allows it, k series seems to be the way to go... Even in n/a form the k series seems far superior...

just buy an early e46 m3, try going to auctions get one for like 9k mod it or just put an exhaust on and enjoy it. maybe even get an e36 if you want more fun for cheaper but they dont pull bitches like the e46 will. but want real dd power? GO CLASSIC! get a dodge dart, a 440BB, stroke it out to 500ci, 906 heads reworked, and a decent cam for like 10:1 compression and fuck up most cars you see...hondas have their place, they are cheap and nice and zippy. but the "cheap" aregument doesnt really stand up after a certain power goal/price range. and btw real talk if you got caught doing some dumb shit on the street with your monster 600whp daily driver honda i dont think the cop will want to do anything besides write you out the fattest ticket he can or try to get your shit impounded. will he do the same for a 1966 coronet with a 426 hemi? probably not, you'll get a break like ive seen dozens of times...i know from experience the only people my car gets attention from are police, teenagers and other honda guys. the police and the other 75% of people hate our cars. they sounds like shit! our engines are very neat, and im proud to own my ej8, we are underdogs! but if you want 10 sec ET's why start with a 100ci fwd car...end rant

btw isnt it cooler to be smoking a cigar, drinking a big gulp dr pepper, have your girl up next to you on a bench seat and smoke the car next to you on full throttle than banging gears on a manual trying to control RIDICLOUS wheel spin on low pro's (the only tire that looks cool on our cars) while trying to make sure you dont mis-shift in a gutted civic making sure the a/c is off before every race? i certainly think so, some people might say "well thats not what racing is about. well i thought racing was about winning...and i also thought life was about bitches and swag lol

Or even a fox body mustang and build a wicked small block for it - 10 second car, that's controllable on the street. Way more bang for the buck.

10 seconds and front wheel drive on the street is real expensive and real squirrely.

@balckdeliah6 ya I understand your point about cops getting pissy and being dicks over Hondas and everything but I honestly don't care about that point. I have been dealing with cops where I'm from about cars and motorcycles since I got my license. And about the E36 deal and what not I do like that idea about getting something like that but I really want to stick in the Honda scene. I went to ECHM and I went to IREV last weekend and if I can make it I want to go to Honda Day too just because everyone there is always nice when I ask a question. I have been to a lot of other shows were they we're the biggest asses ever when asked a question. But any way lets just throw the 10 second number out the window now I didn't realize that it's going to be annoying to drive a 10 second Honda on the road. So I guess my next question would have to be what kind of set up will be powerful, reliable but at the same time good to drive on the streets every once in while? I want it fast for sure and I also don't want to have to rebuild it once a month all the time. Thanks for the help everyone

200 whp in a gutted hatch is more than enough power for the street and enough to put a spankin on some v8s at the track

Ok so what motor would you guys recommend? If 200 hp in a gutted hatch would take on most of the cars around here would you say just a stock K20a because I think they make 210 out the box. And I also would like to do some internal work too but no turbo right now.

If you're going to go turbo later, there's no point to do all motor internal work.

The b's are cheaper, because they are older. The k's cost more, but are a better (technology wise) platform. There's also not as much info about them and are cosnidered a bit 'rare' because of their cost.

If i had to do it again, I'd do a gsr swap and a small turbo kit running 8-10 psi on a small t3 60-1. It's easily a 300whp build, and it's all the power you'll ever need without the need for slicks. And it can be done, inlcuding the car, wheels, suspension, and brakes, for under 12 grand.

Ok but this might be a dumb question but I have to ask it anyway. I though to insure proper performance and to make it more reliable that you should upgrade certain internals such as cams, rods and pistons? The only reason I ask and may sound stupid is because I don't see how all stock internals would be able to hold the power addition of boost. And I was thinking maybe going the GSR route instead of k swap but I just don't know enough about what is the best options. And ordering these motors any suggestions? I have heard many people talk about hmotorsonline.com and from what I have read they are very reputable and give out quality motors. Thanks for all the help and sorry if the questions I ask are stupid I just want to do this all the right way without cutting any corners
