So my old radiator was trash and I decided to replace it with a used SIR2 one from hmotorsonline. Everything fit fine but then I noticed that the old one has a small black sealed electrical box of some kind that the two wires from the fan run into and then back out of before they plug into the connector. It sits right on the upper passenger side corner of the radiator ans is attached by one of the fan shroud bolts. What is this thing and do i need it? The JDM replacement doesnt have it...it just plugs right in. I got it all filled back up with coolant and ran it for quite awhile but the fan never comes on but the temp gauge stays normal. Im going to go drive it around for a bit here in a minute to see if it does anything.

here is a picture of it... maybe a fuse???

what is it a relay for.. the new radiator doesnt have one on it.. im guessing its not needed.

The only thing it could really be a relay for is the fan. Is there a relay for the fan in the underhood fusebox of the car?

Yeah there is a relay for the cooling fan in the underhood fuse box. I also noticed that both the fans from honda (majestic) toyo and denso have this thing on them. Ive been driving the car and no overheating but it doesnt get hot here to know for sure if it affects the fan coming on. I also put power to the fan to make sure it works and it does.

Ok I found it buried in the service manual. it is actually called a "radiator fan motor noise filter". Again not sure if its needed or not but im assuming no. Thanks.

Technically its not needed, if you hear whining in your speakers when the fan kicks on, you might want to hook it up. Should just be like a capacitor.

Interesting. never seen that before.

it almost looks like it was under a bolt as in a ground.

Lol I hadnt either.. it actually went underneath that plastic braket there so that it was sandwiched between the shroud and radiator. Im going to save it for now to make sure I dont need it later.

Exactly, it may also have a coil in it along with a capacitor if it's a good one. But, could just be a capacitor.

radiator problem in my car too honda jazz....

Hey guys,

I was wondering what the problem is, as my radiator fan doesn't switch on when the car is on, and it is overheating, BUT when i switch the car off then go to battery mode, the fan turns.

Is this the relay? faulty wiring? temp sensor? fan switch? as i checked the fuse in the fuse box, n that seems to be all good.

Any ideas?
