91 crx loss of power after 1st gear

hello, i recently obtained a stock 91 crx and it will pull fine in 1st gear, but will lose power in 2nd gear onward almost like its choking. everything under the hood seems to be fine. it idles steadily and doesnt bog. any ideas?

Check your timing marks on your belt make sure it comes up top dead center.When i bought my 90 hatch dx it was a tooth off on the belt.It sounded good and idled good but when i went to go thru the gears its like it got weak.Hope this helps

How's the Catalytic converter?? If it's really old it could be shot and clogged up. Any noticeable smell of rotten eggs which could lead to a clogged cat.

im wondering, what would be the significance of whether the speedometer is working? just curious

vss can end up throwing a soft code which throws it into limp mode.

Sorry for the late update, it could very well be a clogged cat. I had a chance to take it around the block today while it was quiet and noticed a lot of blow-by. My girlfriend took it to a mechanic (behind my back >:[ ) and they said they tried timing it all day but to no avail. I looked over every inch of the bay and didn't see any vac leaks or hanging connectors. If not the cat, Perhaps the ECU has gone bad? Thanks for all of your input, guys.

And yes, the speedometer works fine.
