Hey, so I'm a noob a this kind of stuff but basically I've been looking to swap out my shitty 1987 4 speed stock 1.3 liter Civic hatch with a b18b1 or possibly another b - series motor(tranny and axels needed). I believe the main gasket blew out so I've decided I am going to get a full swap and fix it up to be olderschool JDM honda.

Any suggestions as to different motors, trannys, part sources. would be great

Swapping any fuel injected engine into your car is not an easy task. Your 1.3 engine has a carbureted fuel system which means that it is not equipped with a fuel system or the necessary wiring to run a fuel injected engine. Fuel injection requires a pressurized fuel system. You will need to swap the complete fuel system (tank, pump, lines, etc.) and most of the wiring in the car from a 3rd gen Civic Si model into your car. Even with this, you will need to do a lot of additional wiring as the 3rd gen Civic Si had a vacuum advance ignition system where most all 88 and up Honda engines, like the B18B, had an electronic advance ignition system. Since the B18B is an OBD1 engine, you would need to either convert the engine to run OBD0 or convert the car to run the OBD1 system. Converting to OBD1 will require further wiring changes. For almost any swap into your car, other than another 3rd gen Civic/1st gen CRX engine, you will need to swap out your front knuckles/hubs for ones from the 86-89 Integra. You will, of course, need the B18B engine and a B-series transmission (preferably with cable actuated clutch) to swap into the car. You will need an aftermarket engine/transmission mount kit along with custom axles and custom shift linkage. Mount kits and axles are available from Hasport and are not cheap.

You will also need considerable exhaust work. Since the B-series engine/transmission combo will add over 100 lbs. to the front of the car, in order to maintain handling and ride, you should also replace the front torsion bars with larger ones. As stated previously, this is not an easy swap and would be considered one of the most difficult to accomplish successfully, particularly when it come to the wiring required and can get to be pretty expensive.

thanks for all the info, It opened up my mind quite a bit. That's a bit more work than i thought it would be, but im still considering the rebuild. I'll have to look more into it.

Thanks again for your help

And thanks for the installation instructions! helps a lot!

Another question about the axles. Could I use the front axles from and 86-87 integra?
in theory, you could if the mount kit placed the engine in the right location - sometimes, in order to get the engine to fit they need to make the mounts to push the engine toward the passenger side - in that case, you would need custom axles - i am not sure since we have not done a B-series swap in the 1st gen Civic - have done 84-87 JDM DOHC ZCs and 86-87 Integra D16A1s, both of which bolt right in without an aftermarket mount kit

I found what claims to be a universal mount kit for all b series motors. Looks legit, I just hope i'm not going to be buying a bunch of parts with no use. But if these mounts work then hopefully I can drop the integra axles on.

Thanks again.

Anyone know what options i have for a shift linkage? Just bought my b18b1 motor, all i need are the extras to fit it in: Intake(easy) distributor(easy) alternator (easy) axles(hasport sells customs for a b series fit but still havent looked into trying 86-87 teg axles) mounts(innovative steel mounts) and a tranny(hopefully a b16). main worry right now is finding the proper shift linkage and shfter. Any Ideas?
