So anyone who knows 2nd gen Nissan Frontier (05+ to current) suspension knows that playing with the ride height gets tricky- lowering sucks because there's no travel in the front suspension and no clearance to the frame in the rear, and leveling the truck usually requires picking up both the front AND the rear because the minimum spacer lift up front to clear the shock top hat studs is 2", and that puts the front taller than the rear. Go too high with spacers and you run into hard interference at droop, skip the spacers and you double/triple your price with custom springs and shocks.

Typical leveling kits that are somewhat decent quality run around $200 for something that covers both the front and rear of the truck. I did mine for under $70. Benefits for not touching or raising the rear suspension:

  • no increase in axle wrap
  • kids don't have to jump too much higher to get in
  • minimal lift = less mpg hit
  • cheaper
  • easier (me = lazy)

Here it is, finished in a few hours in the dark of morning with a bunch of rained on wet tools while trying to keep the camera dry:

air ride is your friend. and there would be plenty of room in the rear. just have to cut and weld a notch in and 4-link that bitch. not to mention you can tuck some badass looking 22s with a deep lip.

again...lucky yers is a 4x4. lol it looks good btw!!

I already dropped the Hardbody. ;) I figure that the S2000 and the family micro-van are both sporting adjustable coilovers and sitting closer to the ground, so it would be a shame to lower the 4x4 since I actually use it off-road every now and then and tow/haul all the time. No way do I want to cut the frame either!

I was actually planning on lowering the truck, but the lack of clearance in the front to have the fender gap even all around would require some cutting... and the rear needed an axle flip and new leaf springs. No go for me on this one.

BUT

I did take measurements to see exactly where things would have to be for a front end drop- and I have been measuring the OEM 4cyl and 6cyl springs at Vorshlag to get dimensions and rates for "later."

:D

well done

Thanks!

These go on this week:

Lightest combo I could find that looked halfway decent and still gave me a fat tread on a 33" tire with a good speed rating.

Hope so. Just loaded the wheels into the cab of the truck- hard to do while still in the boxes! I'll toss the tires in the bed in the morning and hope they don't walk away while parked at work, then swing through NTB on the way home to get everything mounted and an alignment package.

And damn, spent 2 hours replacing 4 damn bolts in the lower control arms so that I have adjustable camber and caster! Geez, took forever...

i think it does look better leveled out like that.

my '07 4x4 xterra has a different problem, its getting droopy butt syndrom. Its getting up there in miles, and i carry a 60lb subwoofer setup plus nearly 100lbs of tools in the rear of it most of the time. I have been trying to decide what to do with it, because i intend on keeping it a couple more years. Was thinking of maybe going to airbags in the back. But also was thinking it might be nice to lift the front and the rear a little. sorry for the rambling, seeing this post just got me thinking about it again :p

I guess i never understtod th epoint of leveling. Whats the purpose, other than looks?

Looks, clearance (I have more compression travel before hitting the stops, actually smoother now) and you can actually gain some economy back since you have a flatter profile.
