Well I finally went ahead and got my dream muscle car a few weeks ago 73 chevelle ss and decided to start a build thread with the hopes its done within a few years lol. most ppl shy away from this year model thinking its a ugly mofo, but to me its beautiful, not only that but the only year for this body style and the last year of the chevelle ss. the car was originally black, but the guy that had it before me had the great idea to have it painted maroon with yellow stripes, I had to can over the stripes just for the time being, the car will go back black, with a big block upgrade, it has the 350 in it now. the inside is complete with swivel buckets seats and all but its a wreck and will need a complete over haul, so the frame off will hopefully start soon.oh and check out my pimp tag lol

Cool, have fun on the project. The good part about picking less desireable cars is that parts are more available and usually cheaper.

looks like a great start there. and already running and driving unlike most folks' projects here

Hey! Some of our projects are also out daily drivers!! so.. They HAVE to run... Lol

And on the chevelle, ive seen some NICE versions of these cars, with the massive bumpers ditched, lowered al little, (like a stock car ride height as in nascar) and massive power.... Cant wait to see what you do with this...

thanks guys, and most of the time if a car is unwanted you are correct parts are everywhere, but with my luck this is not one of those times, I can find most stuff for it but its a bitch to find it, and its not as mass produced as the pre 73 years. so far my goal is to have around 600hp with a 4spd, that should be more than enough for this car, despite its big looks the car only weighs 3500lbs. prolly gonna run 18s out back on it and 17s up front. this is my hopes for it anyhow got a long road ahead thats for sure.

just a question for you, about the engine plans.. have you looked into maybe trying an ls engine? ive seen 6.0 engines out of denali's and chevy express vans go for about 600 buck at the bone yard. toss on a decent set of heads, and an intake (for a carb) and ive seen these things run 12's... obviously it will need more, but from what ive seen with my muscle car buddies, everyone seems to be ditching the big blocks in favor of the high winding, cheaper ls engines...

unless you already have the big block handy... then my whole question is pointless...

oh its crossed my mind, and you are right you see more and more ppl going with the ls. and im not totally throwing the idea of a ls away just yet, but as for now my heart is just with a big block 454. the 73 was actually offered with a 454 but they are very rare and if they came with the 4spd uber rare only 600 of them was made.

damn... i wonder how hard it would be to make something like that stick shift...and as for the big block... they are popping up everywhere.. i saw three last week at u-pull-it (lol) two were in late 80's suburbans and the third was what i thought a pretty rare 90 ss silverado 5 speed... my father converted a late 70's caprice to stick shift using older impala parts... whatever you end up doing, im in for the build!!!
one more question, is this the chevelle the called the laguna?

DId you see musclecar on spike when they did project blue collar? Your car reminds me of it.

well since the car was offerd as a 4spd its actually perty easy to make it a stick, the complete kit is around 300 bucks new pedals z bar ect ect, and as far as the laguna, no, mine is a ss they did have model that came as a laguna but the front end was all plastic if im remembering correct and looked a bit different, fog lights in the grill and such, interior was different as well.
