So like the title says im trying to get my 99 ITR motor BAR'D in my 93 eg hatch. The motor is stock, has the stock headers, ob2 itr cat, USDM manifold, all the stuff needed for emissions. my problem is that my hatch is obd1 and the motor is obd2. so i need to convert the car to obd2. I Know its not gona be easy but whats the easiest way to do this. I'd appreciate any help i can get

Do you mean convert it to run an OBD II ECU? because the ECU and sensors are what make the OBD system. Easiest way is to get a conversion harness, pretty much play and play depending on the harness.

like he said, conversion, plug and play.

Then your probably going to have to add all of those extra sensors/wiring.
Also probably going to have to manually wire in the obd2 scan connection port.

But you still might have to get the obd2 harnesses since some connections will be different, distributor for example i believe is different. In which case if you do get all of the obd2 harnesses you probably wont have need for the conversion harness.

Yea, you definitely want to get the harness with the motor. Even though you will not be able to plug it in, the plugs alone during a conversion can be worth their weight in gold.

Thanks for the replies.. I know how to convert the motor to run with an obd1 harness and obd1 ecu. thats easy not a problem for me. The problem is im trying to make it CA legal. trying to get the motor BAR'D or Ref'd. So i HAVE to use an obd2 harness and obd2 ecu WITHOUT any jumper harnesses.. I've heard of using a 96-98 civic vtec harness since they just plug directly into the ecu so i wont have to convert the cabin harness or the one that connect to the shock tower on my 93 hatch

Based on my knowledge....its harder to just toss a 96-98 SOHC VTEC engine harness onto a OBD1 car. There are things like speedo, temp sensor to cluster and other things that run from the ECU to the dash side. Not too sure but that might make a mess of you trying to toss a OBD2 engine harness in your car.

Also.....it is technically illegal (in CA) to put a JDM motor into a chassis that never had the motor as an option in the USA. So that means any 92-00 Civic (other than 99/00 Si) can only have D-series JDM motors. But I've seen BAR'd JDM motors with the USDM IM and USDM ECU (along with evap purge system installed onto the IM).

Have you asked the ref in your area if it must be converted to OBD2?
