i don't know how those people are out in that sort of weather with shorts and tshirts on
seems like a rather un-hospitable place to live, the 23 hours a day light would be cool but i think i would have to leave for the winters

You get used to your environment. People in florda wear winter coats when it's 50 out.
People from Siberia wear shorts when it's 30 out.
 
I always start watching that show until a commercial pops up, then I end up on H2 when "The Universe" or "How the States Got Their Shapes" is on and always forget to change it back.

i've noticed that the commercials on natgeo seem to be very very short
i usually do the channel flip as well, wipeout is always a good commercial channel to flip to lol
 
I really am bad with commercials, but that's because I'm either on Military or H2, and they both play the same 10 commercials over and over again, whether it's previews to shows or actually trying to sell a product. So I'm always flipping back and forth. I do find it comical when I flip from one channel to another and the same exact commercial is playing.
 
I work in a room that's 65F every day, year round. People come in and say "wow, it's cold in here."

Right now my house is 65F, and I could be wearing shorts.
 
Troopers are actually way cooler than any of the municipal cops. A trooper will let you walk for MJ possession (they confiscate it, but no ticket, nothing) whereas a north pole cop will impound your car if a turn signal is out and would probably just execute you on the spot if they thought they could get away with it. If you stay out of city limits and carry a gun, law enforcement gives you a pretty wide berth up here.

Last time I had a chance to watch that show, it was the same 3 episodes over and over, has it gotten any better?
 
yes its better
i guess a new season started recently so they had all the old ones on that i had never watched before and now new episodes.
i'm sure it will be all repeats pretty soon again.

This is true for pretty much anywhere. Never met an Indiana State Trooper that wasn't awesome to just stand around and have a conversation with.
 
did you ever get pulled over by a statey when you were in texas? gimmie a city copy any day.
 
everything is bigger in texas... including the douchebags lol
i think it mostly depends on the training
texas has some serious shit their state guys need to deal with so i am sure they are trained accordingly.
where as in alaska the local guys probably have limited training and desire some sense of power so it affects their handling of situations.
for the most part cops are just normal people doing a shitty job, took me a long time to realize that, especially as someone who believes in very limited gov't
 
MD State Troopers are jackasses on the highway, but anywhere else they're pretty good. Baltimore city, b'more county, and harford county are the WORST. From what I understand from Chris, Mass SP are pretty bad too.

Once they run my name they always become friendly for some reason, but beforehand, I get yelled at and told "Put your hands on the wheel and don't move." Unfortunately they won't ever let me get to the point where I can tell them without freaking out that I have a rifle in the car. lol.

I saw part of an episode of it this past week, looks like a good show. I'll have to set the DVR.
 
revealing you have a weapon in the vehicle allows them to remove you from the vehicle and search you and your vehicle "for their safety"
the search should be limited to securing the weapon, but once that door is open they take full advantage.

one story from the show
ASP have decoy deer with luminescent eyes that they place a small distance from the roadway, so the eyes catch the light from the headlights so passing motorists can see them
they are on the look out for people hunting using artificial light, aka spotlighting deer
so they have this one truck slow down a considerable amount, but he ultimately keeps on driving, so they decide to check him out
pull the guy over and find a severed deer head in the back of the truck, and he also happens to have a rifle, 30-30 with a round in the chamber
they pull the gun, remove the round, and tell him its dangerous to drive with a loaded weapon
pull the temp off the deer head and determine that it is not a recent kill, and the guy explains it was a roadkill or otherwise already dead deer, and the ASP have him draw a map of where he found it, and then they went to confirm the carcass or hide was where he said it was
maybe alaska laws are different, but in NY if you have a weapon with one in the chamber in your car you're going to jail (besides CCW i believe)

Couple of things: You are only required to inform them of the weapon if it is concealed on your person. The center console is not your person. If it is concealed on your person, you cannot interfere with him securing the firearm, but this does not give him permission or probable cause to execute a search of the vehicle.
 
Similar to when you are asked to step out of your vehicle for a field sobriety test.
The officers are allowed to pat you down on the exterior of your clothes only to confirm you do not have a weapon on your person, but they usually push the limit and ask you whats in your pockets and if they can see it. If you don't know your rights, you don't know they are breaking the law by having you turn out your pockets.

been there done that... pulled over once for a sobriety test at a drunk stop and the officer wanted to know what was in my pockets i told him nothing of his interest and he started getting mouthy. told him the remote to my gopro was on my keychain and he changed his tone. i then took a breathalyzer and blew zero. he told me to get back in my car and gtfo.
