The coach is in a huge legal case of child abuse for this.

Utah youth football coach under investigation for child abuse after allegedly concussing 13-year-old opposing player | Prep Rally - Yahoo! Sports

I don't know about you, but it looks to me like the kid was running out of bounds, and the coach just put his arms up in a natural reaction to protect himself/brace for impact.

Whether it was an accident or not, is what i would like you to vote on.

And whether you think if it was on purpose, does this constitute child abuse?

its really hard to tell in the video but it looks pretty intentional to me
given the age of the player i would be inclined to let the child abuse charge stick

the coach could have avoided it all by allowing room for the player to run out of bounds, so even if it wasn't intentional eh definitely didn't take any steps to ensure the safety of the other player

part of the game...... it happens all them time.
unfortunately the little punkass ran into a damn 'wall' compared to the other kids he's used to.

bahhhh. let him go.

if you look closely to the video you can see a shoving motion by the coach, or at least that's what it looks like to me.

People need to unwad their panties. Its a fucking football game. Yeah, the kid got laid out. If you really have an issue with your child getting the snot smacked out of them, football is probably not their sport. Try competitive Pinochle. No contact involved there.

Was it on purpose? Absolutely. Does it constitute child abuse? No. Kick the coach out of the game and call it good.

Kid was making a bee-line for the sidelines. He didn't step into him or off the sidelines like they claim. In fact he got knocked back before he even made any move. Guy reacted as most would.

If he had gotten blind sided by a kid in the game would anyone be facing a charge? Or would they just call him a cheap shot taking asshole.

At the end of it all, the big question is should this guy be facing a felony charge and lose everything that comes along with one for what you see in the video? Is it even clear enough to make that kind of decision?

grown men should never lay out women or children
you can't really see the video well enough, but if the ref made the call to eject the guy on the spot i would say he had a better view than anyone watching this video will have.

if that video is the basis of their arrest, this will all be dropped soon enough.

a grainy vid that you cant hardly make anything out on wont hold up.
and witnesses from across the field wont hold up much either.

people just trying to make noise.
the mom will be suing for 15mil soon.

After recent events are you really going to give a ref that much credibility? And again, determine a man's potential livelihood on it?

I dunno, but to me it looks like he flat out close lined the kid. Was a little excessive in my opinion. Don't know if it constitutes child abuse but it was clearly intentional. I don't think ANY of us here would do that to some kid. I'd just get the fuck out of the way instead of try and interfere with someone else's kid. Parents in kids sports are brutal. Parents need to stop living vicariously through their children.

First, looks like the coach was on the field and did level the kid. Cant tell how though. And if it was an accident, there would have been more reaction from the coach. I mean, if you had a 60 pound kid run into you, your not just gunna step back after the impact. Seems to me, he was braced and ready for it. If it was intentional, lock his ass up. If not, give the kid a map next time he gets on the field.

Second, if that was my kid and the coach did do it on purpose Id do the same fucking thing to him. Id give him a damn concussion and call it a wash.

I dont think a 13 year old football player is 60 lbs. I watched several times and it looks like the coach is on the field. Child abuse? I dont think so, more like assault.

The coach should have just moved or tried to deflect off each other which is easily done. I think it was malicious knowing how pop warner coaches are...

I can't really make any call by what I see in the video. It does look as though the coach made a move before being run over, but I can't see where he was or what I think his intentions were.

My 2 cents. At 13, my team's running back was 6' and athletically built. He was pretty much a full grown man. In the video I believe the kid is just a bit shorter than the coach. I think the coach saw a mass of human and equipment coming at him and he braced for impact. The kid got caught by surprise and was defenseless. I once broke a friend's jaw at practice because I caught him by surprise. Wasn't a particularly hard hit, but he didn't see it coming.

I've seen players and coaches alike get barreled and sometime hurt when a player comes across the sidelines. I don't think the guy should have just let himself get run over.

Ok, theyre heavier. That only helps my point.

God damn knit pickers. :)

By the time my kids are in school, shaking their hand will be child abuse.
You can't lay a hand on the kids, but they spend all day sending pictures of "the goods" to each other. I try not to think about the future...

It's easier and safer to just "catch"/grab the person than to try to avoid them. Hard to tell from the video but looks like the coach could have avoided having to "hit" the player, so I vote intentional, but not child abuse:

same thing as if you were driving, someone jaywalks, you see them, but hit them anyways. Even though jaywalking is illegal, you're still guilty of striking that person since it could have been avoided.

I agree.

Basically I see this as negligence on the coach's part. He should have been paying attention enough to catch the player not level the player. He reacted, but it was too much too late.
