I'll be needing a new grill once we move in a few weeks. My $299 Charmglow from Home Depot from 4-5 years ago is already shot.

I've always wanted a Vermont Castings but just found out that the parts are now made in China and assembled in Kentucky and that the quality is not what it used to be after being bought out by another company a few years back.

I know Webers are pretty good grills but i was shopping around the web and found Napoleon grills looks like they are made in Canada and seem to be comparable to Webers. I dont know crap about Canadian manufacturing.

I want to stay around $1000 and something that will last atleast 10 years, preferably more, in this crazy New England weather. 304 Stainless Steel at least 3 burners

I have 2 webers. One charcoal, one gas.

I like weber because they have great parts and support. I inherited my weber gas grill from my dad and we replaced the burners after 5 years of use and 6 years later with light use its going strong. He has a newer model and its very nice. He spent about 1k and is pretty comparable to most home depot 300 jobs in terms of specs but will out last all of them.

In all honesty I want a traeger or the new weber charcoal grill system with the interchangable center grills and propane lighting system.

I know you want stainless because it looks cool and quick/clean. I rarely use the gas unless I'm just cooking like 1 item real quick, otherwise I use my classic weber. I have the side panels to hold coals, lid lift, center trays and a couple other gadgets for it that make it more easy to use. Love cooking with good hardwood.

If you want a grill to last, keep it covered when not in use to keep it out of the elements. a 1000 grill will deterorate just as fast as a 100 one will.

A good cover and proper maintenance will take care of most of that deterioation. I have a cover on my weber and its 13 years old. Works great. Looks almost new. I get a little more moisture out my way than you guys. :)

I kept my current one outdoors 24/7 but covered for the first 2 year before the left burner went out and then the knob fell off, and the side burner stopped working ....then i stopped caring about it, but even after two years it rusted pretty good. it still "works" but it cooks like shit, doesn't heat up well, cooks very unevenly.

The good thing about the new house is the deck is directly connected to the garage and there is a door there so i can bring the new one in and out with ease.

and no... a quality $1000 grill will absolutely not break down as fast as a cheap $100 grill. A guy i play poker with as a 10 year old Vermont Castings Signature series black enamel finish and he has never covered it or brought it in doors and it looks brand new, which was one of the reason i always wanted a Vermont Castings grill.

And SS is not only for looks, 304 stainless is high quality and extrmely resistant to the elements which is want i want only 304 SS

The whole thing will likely not be SS though. the frame will probably be something else, and even the bottom burn pot area is not SS even on expensive grills.

That's the stuff that ends up rusting out, not the lid

my $149 special from home depot has been outside for going on 2 years now without any issue. I pull it under my overhang in the winter, but it's still basically outside. I can't possibly see spending $1000 on a grill as a good investment, unless it was a built-in to an 'outdoor kitchen' type setup in a mason retaining wall type thing... like the guy behind me has.

I have yet to see a professional barbecuer besides celebrity chef Bobby flay on tv once in a while with a stainless job. But then again I don't use gas that much anymore.

errr ok....im not really sure what that has to do with what i want?

If you look up any top of the line grill be it Wolf, Lynx, Fire Magic, Viking, etc.....you won't find it in anything but SS. You won;t find them made from cast iron, sheet metal or enamel. Almost every single grill on the market is SS

let's not turn this into a flame war because i want a SS grill lol

316 has better corrosion resistance than 304. Are any of them made of 316?

never seen any of them made of 316, usualy everything of quality for commercial sale is made of 304, especially kitchen appliances, or food and beverage appliances

FTFY

My weber and my dad's aren't SS and I'd recommend them and come in under $1k. If you're set on a SS get a summit series. Good ratings just expensive. I like weber because they're well built and will be around for a long time to replace misc crap if it does break. Most of the items are carried at your local depot/lowes or lawn/garden store.

Also are you plummed for natural gas? That can change your choice drastically. I know a lot of homes now adays are.

just emailed a guy on a Summit S 420. LP no access to NG :(,

Interesting conversation with a local grill store. He and his staff were owners and salesmen of Weber grills for 15+ years. He stated he just started selling Napoleon grills because he indicates Weber's quality has slipped and parts are now made in china so he won't sell them anymore. He stated Napoleon grills are just as good if not better then Webers of old and are very good quality build, solid.

gonna go check out his store possibly tonight

I've got a 5 burner SS Ducane that we bought at Home Depot about 5 years ago. Has a side burner and an infrared rotisserie. No idea if it's 304, 316, or 69, and frankly, I don't care. It's been reliable. My only complaint, and it may be because I don't consistently cover it (my last cover got bird eaten in the spring of 2011) is that I've had to replace the burners. It seems the metal expands and pops apart along the seam of the burner. Cost me about 60 bucks including shipping. It's been out in the rain, snow, hot, and cold of the midwest and fires up every time without a problem.

I've held back long enough. First thing that came to mind. :p
