My name is Byron.
Just picked up a 90 Camry, 240k on the clock, no rust and runs like a top. Its the single cam 2.0 (20r is it?) no knocks, ticks or anything funky.

Was an older couples commuter, his wife drove it mostly. Kept up with regular PM and what not. My question is is there anything specific I need to check out?

Toyota's are so reliable. Check out the consumer digest most reliable cars. Almost all are Japanese and the majority are toyota's.

My dad's wife has a '95 camry. Thing is pretty darn reliable with a ton of mileage. Previously my dad had a 85 toyota pickup 4x4 that had like 270k on it before he sold it. Talk about worth its weight in gold. He was getting offers on it every month before my uncle bought it from him. Still running I believe.

Only problem i've ever had was a clutch going out...and that happened 6 years into owning it..........and it was my first car....

I wouldnt worry too much about it.. toyotas, especially older ones, are very reliable... had a 91 pickup w/ the 22r-e and 200k ..beat the piss out of it without a hiccup... even w/ no oil..
Have an 02 4runner now

Toyotas camrys and their struts, and strut mounts with sway bar links (front and rear)... Also check the rear lower control arms/adjustment arms for play or looseness.oil pan leaks, valve cover leaks... Other than those usual problem areas, you should be fine...

Plan is to drive the piss out of it. Pretty much everything mentioned checks out OK... Guess I got a good deal...

So, after very little consideration, I think that Im goin to drop it 4-5", run waaay too much of an offset wheel with waayy too narrow of a tire, that coupled with retarded camber should be pretty sweet.

I hope that was a joke...

I've actually had my eye on a first gen Tacoma for awhile now. Belonged to an older neighbor. He passed away, and now it just sits in the driveway. Trying to figure out if enough time has passed for me to inquire about it.

Sarcasm or idiot speak?

Wait'll you see how balanced this is in a corner. You'll love it.

Don't beat the piss out of it. They don't make these things anymore. Instead, save up for a 289 Ford k-code, and a good trans. You can source the offroad specialists for adaptor kits to mate Ford v8s to toyota transmissions. Cheap.

I already told myself I wont let this turn into a project.

Anyhow I was under the impression that almost every Toyota motor and trans bolt together?
