I can only seem to find one kit from X10 but they are out of stock until february. i have a really hard time remembering to close my garage door when i leave in the morning and always remember when i am at work. I want a system that i can montior on my phone to see if the door is open or closed, and then be able to open or close from an app on my phone....

any ideas? links?

How hard is it to press the button on the door remote to close it as you pull out of the garage?

well when you spend 34.8 years of your life without a garage door and you've only had it for 2 weeks or so, it's pretty hard.

also depends on who you ask, for someone with no arms, or for someone who is crippled, it could be extremely hard.

my car has homelink built into it... it just replaces the opener with a mirror button after pairing it up like bluetooth.

but really, you need to put a sticker/post it on your steering wheel that says 'did you close the garage door, moron?'

FYI, most security systems can integrate this feature for not much. I have the same problem, and I've had powered garage doors for most of my life. I never use my front door, I always come in and out of my garage, and in the morning when I'm on the way to work I always used to have to do a second pass around the neighborhood to make sure my garage door is closed. I've got ASG security systems at my house and shop, and I can monitor everything, control my garage door, control the AC at my house, etc etc etc. Luckily those systems were installed both in my house when I bought it and in the shop when I moved in, so I didn't have to pay anything to have it all installed, just had to have it activated and it costs me like $70 a month for both (or something around that).

Also, FWIW, there IS a note on my dash that says 'close garage door'. I read it just as I'm pulling out of the neighborhood.

Post-it note on the gauges? Its a $0.03 solution. Seriously. Pull out, push the button. Not rocket science.

I swear to god, I forgot to close the garage one time. Now I almost always have to check that its closed. I make a habit of remembering a small part of closing it. Like remembering the noise of the click of the button. So if I can't recall closing it I can just ask myself if I remember the noise from pushing the button.

sounds like a $70 a month idiot tax to me. Liberals everywhere just got wet.

yeah thats weird comment dude, home security systems are no different then paying for medical insurance, life insurance or car insurance....it's piece of mind as well...

Im having ADT install the new Pulse system on the 17th. I worry about my two dogs with fires or someone breaking in and doing harm to them. For $50 bucks a month im doing what i can to keep them safe, its 100% worth it for me because they mean everything to me. As far as my personal things, other then my gun, i don't care as much, that's what home owners insurance is for.

I can understand not having had one for so long, but usually when I get something new like that I can't stop thinking about it, and I get excited when I get to use it. By the time that excitement wears off it usually has become a force of habit.

Seriously, where the hell have you been? Disappear for a few months then randomly come back?

Here is my security system.... when u have these 2 barking at the front door u probably wouldnt want to come in anymore. .lol

I must've read the $70 post wrong... I thought it was for the app on the phone, not the security system.

And if i lived in meriden, I'd have a stellar alarm too.

I'm OCD with automatic garage doors. I won't push the button and go... I have to watch it till it closes all the way and doesn't trip a pressure sensor and start opening again. All it takes is a leaf hanging on a spiders web to cross in front of the eyes and your door is sitting wide open all day.
