Stuck in the snow, driving home to Pittsburgh from Cincinnati, the storm started 4 hours earlier than they said on the radio. Already spun out once on the highway, luckily only going about 15 miles an hour and there is minimal damage to my rear number and hatch, so I'm about two and a half hours away at a travel plaza, waiting out the storm. I've been here for 3 hours. Anyone else stuck?

Exit 160 on 70 going toward Pittsburgh, I've been following the weather online supposedly the snow was supposed to start breaking up around 2, it's seemed to get a little lighter. I've watched the plow truck here plow the lot since I've been here.

Edit: it will now taper off by 3.

I don't understand this stuck thing....

Do you not know its winter?

Do you not have winter tires on your car?

with the exception of the 240sx (which had the worst tires ever on it), i've NEVER been stuck in the snow. ever.

When interstate driving it may not be him being physically stuck. I have been in plenty of situations where the weather was so bad that the plows could not keep up with the snow and had ruts hitting the under side of my car. A couple of years ago we had a 4 mile line of cars literally stopped on a slight incline because two big rigs in each lane couldn't get the traction to get over the hill.

Sometimes it isn't a matter of how well you are equipped but how bad others are not or the simple fact that Mother Nature can still own any situation at any time.

You probably made the best move by pulling off and waiting it out at a rest stop.....

There is a section of highway shutdown in idaho right now for 70 miles. There are sections of highway all shut down in utah. They prepare pretty well but freezing rain is freezing rain.

Yea, i gotta agree with b... Even tho we here in chicago have gotten hardly any snow, i still put the winter tires on my car... And ive never gotten stuck... Lowered car and all... I usually try and do stupid shit in it too, purposely trying to get into trouble, and nothing. Ive been able to drive myself out every time... But its better to sit it out if you dont feel ip to driving in crappy weather... Better safe than sorry.

There's a lot of reasons I park the integra for the winter and mob the Cherokee. There are a lot of reasons I park the Cherokee in the summer and mob the integra. The more diverse the weather patterns, the more difficult it is to obtain a "do everything" vehicle. A small fwd car is certainly not it. It's good to have one for commuting on paved roads, but having one as your only option is going to end up with you hating life during inclement weather. Once I can afford a beater truck, I'll have all the bases covered. If snow is a regular battle for you, but you can only have one vehicle (and thus efficiency is a factor to consider) I'd recommend a Subaru forester.

Snow tires help but aren't perfect. I got my truck 2wd with snows stuck in about 7 inches of snow and a thin layer of ice on the bottom of it. It took about 5 min of rocking to get it going.

I am glad we got a coating here, I am moving tomorrow and need to move the big stuff around the back of my building. Now I just have to deal with the cold. I can see why no one is selling their houses now.

a couple weeks back we got 10" over 2 days.my lowered del sol with regular all seasons did just fine.and yesterday we got a couple inches.again it did fine.

It wasn't so much that I was stuck, I COULD have kept going, just wasn't comfortable driving anymore with the conditions and the way everyone else was driving, especially since I JUST put 4 nitto ns2 snows on Tuesday before I left for Cincinnati, and still spun into a rail. I saw countless wrecks and two jackknifed semis. It was pretty rough out there.

Yea... I get that... Gotta quick question for ya mr holiday, you put snow tires on all 4 corners of your car? And if you did, did you notice your car being less stable in the rear? Im asking because 2 winters ago, i put firestone winterforce tires on my car for the winter... And it was the most unstable damn thing ive ever driven. It would sway side to side at any speed above 60mph... I then bought a set of kumho all seasons for the rear, and the instability issue was gone... Anyone else experience this with winter tires??? Or is it just the firestones????

I didn't notice anything with the nittos, and yes I put all four on, but they are a little different than the winter forces as far as tread height/design/ and the space in between tread knobs, firestones being smaller but there's more of them, I've never really heard of any issues like that though? My shop doesn't sell a lot of the winter forces we push the nittos glacier grips altimax artics and blizzakks, but we still will sell the firestones we have them but never heard of that..

Thinking about it though I have some extra weight in my ass end that could have made a difference between you an me, if it wasn't the tires..
