Anyone manage to get out and do any fishing yet this year?

I havent really been able to fish lately due to an elbow injury. Also, Ive been working on a project boat for myself for the last 5 months or so.... its a 1991 Anacapri 17 ft deep v center console. I know the original owner and this boat has been unused in dry storage for all but three years of its 22 year life. It needed some updating, and mice had gotten in it and chewed a bunch of wires. I see a lot of boats (im a boat mechanic) and its very rare to find any older boat that is has such perfect fiberglass, no rot, and virtually no corrosion in our salty south fl environment, so i figured this was well worth restoring. Best part is that it was free.

At this point the boat is almost done... Just getting done rigging a 130hp yamaha with 127 hours on the boat. I completely gutted the boat to bare fiberglass, even got a brand new fuel tank made. ALL new wiring, LED lighting, garmin GPS/depth, cushions, rub rail, rod holders, sound system, etc... its going to be the nicest boat ive ever owned and ive had quite a few! Heres of a few pics of it in progress, and some completed pics will be coming soon. Hopefully with some fish in them!

Sweet, I was going to make this thread...but knew our southern comrades would do it for us. If you finish that boat, and want to trade a crx project for it, your welcome to bring it up and take a crx back home.

I've been getting out, but the bite has been super slow. The fish are lockjaw'ed right now. The FF can't even find a solid bottom of the river I fish, because too many fish.

I've spent probably about $4500 on just fly fishing and artificial baits in the last few months...another $1500 for just camera's and crap. I'm going to hit it hard this year with the yaks I have, and when the weather warms up, I have a few spare yaks to loan out now. Two weeks in Japan for fishing is also planned...

I've been out a few times this year. Haven't caught anything I wanted to keep yet. Just a bunch of cutthroat trout when I'm fishing for steelhead.

Looks like a nice little boat. That thing is rated for 130hp? That seems like a big engine for a 17Ft, whats the dry weight?.

My brother in law and I have a 1990 17FT Boston Whaler Montauk with a 1990 90HP V4 Evinrude and it gets up there pretty good. Can't imagine a 130 on that thing....

can't wait to get out there this year!

It is actually rated at 130hp max... The dry weight is listed as 1200lbs, but i figure around 2000 with the motor and all. The boat used to have an early 90s johnson 115hp and it did 44mph on GPS.

Its a pretty substantial hull for a 17 footer, it looks more like a 19 from a glance. If everything goes to plan and the ocean stays calm, its maiden voyage will be trolling for some dolphin tomorrow!

ahhh yeah ok, the Whaler is listed at 950lbs dry weight so that makes sense that 1200lbs needs 130hp.

That thing looks like is going to turn out really nice.....we did some minor restoration work as well. Re-Teaking all the wood was really fun.....

The boat is getting a name at some point... still some other stuff to do first though. Cant wait to see what it looks like after compounding and waxing the hull, I think the gelcoat will really shine. I did manage to get out on the water today, but no fishing. Had a carb problem, had to pull them and clean them, running great now though! Going tomorrow to trade the prop for a little lower pitch so it can really scream... it did hit 44mph GPS today, but its way over-propped so speed will increase with the right prop. I promise I wont post any more boat pics in this thread without fish in them! :p

Getting it ready last night...

Went on a bass fishing/camping trip with my friend up to Ocala National Forest area. We fished a couple different lakes and had a good ol time. No real big fish, but we at least we caught some, had a couple decent days. Weather was great for camping, and we definitely caught a good buzz. We were on his little 14ft alumacraft... nicely rigged out jon boat.

One afternoon we decided to explore the Ocklawaha river that ran nearby... what a great place! So peaceful and quiet, tons of wildlife, and good times haulin ass in the little boat, dodging downed trees. There may have been moonshine involved... :D

Right on man! Looks fun. I'll have to post some pictures from this up coming weekends fishing trip.

Saw this on the news. That was hilarious.

That video of the guy in the kayak is bad ass! It was on the news last night here too. Ive definitely had some up close looks at big bulls and hammerheads under the boat when you are pulling up fish, but never in a kayak!

Did alot of work to the Montauk. Took off all the wood, sanded it down and re-teaked it. Added a brand new Lowrance Elite 5 DSI GPS/Sonar/Fishfinder. And had a Jensen Marine stero system installed. Had some rewiring done. Added 6 SS Perko Rod holders.

Year 2 of boating/fishing awaits

I like those lowrance elite units... i just installed a 7" one in a boat a couple weeks ago, it is easy to use and works great.

I took my boat out earlier this week and caught a few snapper and a bunch of jacks, but nothing really picture worthy. Gotta get a fish fry going soon, got snapper and sheepshead in the freezer.
