Theres an article on the nyc soda ban today on the post.
Bloomberg’s large-soda ban also prohibits 2-liter bottles with pizza orders and some bottle-service mixers at nightclubs - NYPOST.com

what i thought it was and what it actually is makes it even worse than i thought.

diet soda, which is scientifically more likely to kill you, is not under the law.
carafes and picthers are banned. you can't get mixers. can't get a 2 liter and a pizza.

i can't believe ny let this happen.

Where are you going to emigrate to?

Canada, or another far more socialistic country than ours?

I'm actually in the planning stages of a year long trip to Australia. If I figure out that I love it, Maybe I'll stay longer.

Where guns are all out banned eh mate?

Their guns laws are stricter than our currently, but if Obama gets his way, theirs will be the more relaxed of the two.

No where is going to be perfect. Just want to try a little change. Everyone I've known that's been there for more than a vacation says I'll love it. That the way of life would suit my outside the box thinking.

I just can't stand the over governing anymore. I'm of the believe that most everything should be legal. Let people slowly kill themselves. Let survival of the fittest take hold. And when health insurance says no because you're 600lbs., you deal with the consequences of your prior actions.

Here's where you have to be torn between two arguments - civil liberties and rights or fiscal responsibility.

If you want to always take the hard line conservative, lets be fiscally responsible, you have to respect the cost that overweight and unhealthy people have on the health care system as a whole.

If you can't legislate to change how insurance companies are allowed to choose their customers - and if the government is taking on even more of the health care burden itself - then I think the next step is to legislate away the garbage that is driving up the costs. That's what I see NY's move as - can't fix the root of the problem because of politics, being 'fair' and being politically correct, so attack the portion of the problem that you can correct.

I don't see how the 600lbs. man is even my problem. His poor health choices should be reflected in his medical bill, not mine.

I have no problem tossing a few bucks into the pot to help people who are down on their luck, or have something unfortunate happen, but taking a big bite of my paycheck to pay for those who are abusing the system, consciously or passively, is a problem to me.

It's just personal responsibility. You spent all your money at McDonald's and can't afford your meds? Oh well. Hope you live until next month and learn from your terrible decision. You took a whole 8 ball to the head and now it feels like your heart is going to explode? If you survive, I bet you learned your lesson. You've drank a 2 liter of Coke every day for the past 5 years and you have Type 2 Diabetes with no insurance? Hope you can interpret WebMD better than me.

Stop taking care of the bacteria floating in the gene pool.

My friend lives in Australia, and everyday is some story of him or the people around him being beaten senseless by a roving gang of skin heads.

Australia was only good in the outback, and only with the ability to defend one's self.

Screw that. I'm in America. I'll fight for this place.

Not to be crass, but I'm a white male with blond hair and blue eyes. I think I'm good. What city anyway?

This is the worst bull shit representation I've ever heard. I know numerous people that live there, have lived there, and travel there and have had an incredible time.

And slush, there is so many more crazy laws and legislation in place in australia it will blow your mind. Try getting a drivers license or something. Beer costs more. Taxes are higher. Everything is way more expensive in general. At that, I know people that have moved from there and moved to there and they all love it.

Beer cost more?!?!

Na, I know. I've been researching this for almost a year and I have a close friend that spent a year there. I've picked her brain for all it's worth. Worst case scenario, I come home early.

I can't believe I'm about to watch a movie about corn.

i would rather be in a socialist country that claims to be socialist, rather be in a socialist country that claims to be a democracy and free.

if you're going down under, nz>au

or so i've heard. never been to either.

The root cause is NOT people drinking soda.
The root cause is corn. and corn subsidies.

I suggest you all watch this
Watch King Corn Online | Netflix

just watched this, not sure what disgusts me more: the fact that we are growing this much nutritionally useless "food" that is fed to our animals, or that these farmers are extremely happy to only grow this shit just to collect a check from the government.

I haven't watched the corn movie, but refining any food means you get more of what's in it to begin with, good and bad.

Also, to slush, think of this scenario: What if the fat guy falls on you and kills you? You kept in shape and ate healthy, but the bad decisions of another person caused your death.

Now, while I think there are a lot of stupid, pointless laws on the books (the soda thing in New York being one), we do have laws for a reason, and there are laws that actually benefit society. You have to be able to look at situations from more than just your perspective.

The only way to advance is to have a more intelligent society, and that doesn't happen over night.

We are moving more and more towards Harrison Bergeron as each minute passes. If you haven't read it, or seen the movie , you really should.
