Anyone here get the new Sim City today? I've been playing these games since I was little and absolutely love them. Its pretty good so far other than the server problems origin had this morning.

The city building is unique on this Sim game. You can build a region and others can claim land in your region and as they build there city, it can help you out also. Say if you had a city that was full of garbage and they had a waste management system, their garbage trucks would clean your city as long as they were connected. People in your city might also commute to a neighboring city for work and so on and so forth.

Pretty decent game so far.

I think I am going to wait for it to go on sale at some point. It does look pretty good though.

cant... resist... urge... to buy

DAMN YOU MAXIS WHY DID YOU BUILD THE SECOND MOST ADDICTING GAME EVER

next to civilization... of course :)

Same.

My brother got it and loves it. Of course with him, he's into the 'next big thing' until the next big thing comes out. Then it'll be 3 years before he touches it again.

so, its like farmville?

You've never even heard of Simcity, SC3000 and SC4? You're a mayor of an empty patch of land, and you build roads, Residential, commercial, industrial zoned areas, etc. You build a city... farmville is for kids.

Already logged 14 hours since the release. :( My life is over

imagine if you put that time and effort into something that might make you money instead of someone else....

I look at this way, whenever I decide to build the city of Jared, I'll be prepared for whats in store. Maxis is training me to be the best Mayor ever.

Well after buying it, and playing the shit out of it for a few weeks now... I can say I'm ridiculously disappointed in this new SC game. This has got to be one of the worst SC games Maxis has put out.

Sim City 4 Deluxe is far beyond superior it's not even remotely funny. The only thing this one has over SC4D is it's online and others can build around you.

These maps are so goddamn tiny that if you do ANYTHING with city specialization, you CANNOT keep your tax revenue in the black and still have a decent looking city. Placable buildings like the trade depots, ore/coal/oil mines, ore/oil refineries, HQs, universities and power plants take up huge chunks of land. If your streets get too full and you upgrade from High Density Street to an avenue, you have to destroy it, along with every single building along that road, thus destroying your tax revenue until they rebuild. Most of the cities I've done so far have one whopping highway connection, which makes for ridiculously long commute times for ANYBODY, much less the trade trucks which, after a certain point, you need to make any sort of money at all.

Why'd they do away with subway and rail line building capability? Another huge downfall. It's like they wanted you to rely on roads for EVERYTHING, then give you one whopping access point to the region with that being the only way of trading commerce.

Also, what the fuck is up with the revenue system anyway? You ship one crate of computers for 147,000 a shipment, and your coffers only give you 20,000? Really? The numbers really don't add up. Honestly, it's a great game as long as you either do full RCI only cities, or go full fledged City Specialization, and even then traffic problems are a nightmare.

It's sad really, all I want maxis to do is give me one giant region with the ability to start a city anywhere and build one huge city. You cannot build a clean, healthy city and have any industry anywhere, while still mining for coal, ore or oil. It will not happen. I had one city that reached 294,000 people, and after one tornado 60,000 people moved out? Really? Stupid.

Haha, your post puts real life city planners and traffic engineers in a whole new light for me.

City planning and engineering traffic is one of my favorite things to do on SC. I would sit for hours just redrawing and upgrading roads on SC4, just to make traffic flow more smoothly.

I can't quite get to the point where I don't have my entire city covered with residential area. I run out of room and I can't build entertainment.
