So as some of you may remember, I have had horrible luck with my 2000 Civic Si aptly named Vader. Well a couple weeks ago it finally happened. I totaled it. not even mad about it. lol
Driving down the freeway in somewhat heavy traffic, we're all exiting a construction zone near downtown and begin to return to the usual speed limit of 65mph when all of a sudden everyone slams on their brakes. (Ohio drivers... Right 2000Si?) My non ABS having Si locks up and I rear end a newer Camry.
Got out, immediately knew it was totaled while his car suffered minimal damage. I downshifted and hit the brakes hard so I nose dived under his rear bumper. Luckily he was ok and I just smacked my head on the wheel since the air bag didn't deploy (more on that later.)
I always knew the only way I'd get any decent money out of this car was either by it being totaled or stolen. Sadly this way was the easier of the two. After dealing with some BS from Geico where I had it fully insured we reached a settlement and could move on once I received my check. In that time I found a few candidates for replacement focusing mainly on EK hatches or coupes. Decided on that because I planned on buying back the car to get my lower mile swap and other Si goodies and they'd be the easiest/most worth while recipients.
Found these two very clean hatches worth some further inspection...
Any clean rust free unmolested Honda is rare up here. EK hatches of that sort are almost non existent. Decided on the cleaner of the two mostly because it was already a 5 speed and was closer to home.
While still waiting on my check preparations for it's arrival began. A friend and I started the tear down on the Si at my uncle's house, in the snow and crap, at night by the light of my rental Prius' head lights, on gravel. Not so much fun but we got it done. Only drained the Prius' battery once!
As it was when we started.
And the next day (didn't get very many good pics mid-pull.)
We also pretty much stripped the interior down to nothing. I'm swapping whatever I can from it into the hatch, and whatever I don't use will be sold. Actually most of it already is. Si parts go fast!
Still need to pull the rear brakes and some other chassis components but that'll wait til we swap the motor into...
Filburt! 1998 Civic CX hatch
Picked it up today. Pretty much bone stock save for the adjustable Konis and Ground Control coil overs. Its pretty damn clean with only a couple tiny dents on the front fenders.
Interior is very clean as well (pics to be added later.) Somewhere along the line someone installed del Sol grey striped seats. Haven't decided whether I want to leave them in there (they're slightly worn) or swap in my fresh Si's. The Si's match the stock rears better and have more adjustment, but the Sols have really nice side bolster support. We shall see...
As I said, plans are to swap anything I can from the Si. JDM B16A/Y21 drop out. Wheels, rear disc brakes, sway bars, strut braces, etc. Possibly repro CTR front/rear lips and a duck bill spoiler. Window tint for sure. Probably gonna rock it for a little while, get my fun out of it, then flip it and get into something I really want. Something AWD turbo.
Til then, to hell with Vader, LONG LIVE FILBURT!!!
so fitting
