So as some of you may remember, I have had horrible luck with my 2000 Civic Si aptly named Vader. Well a couple weeks ago it finally happened. I totaled it. not even mad about it. lol

Driving down the freeway in somewhat heavy traffic, we're all exiting a construction zone near downtown and begin to return to the usual speed limit of 65mph when all of a sudden everyone slams on their brakes. (Ohio drivers... Right 2000Si?) My non ABS having Si locks up and I rear end a newer Camry.

Got out, immediately knew it was totaled while his car suffered minimal damage. I downshifted and hit the brakes hard so I nose dived under his rear bumper. Luckily he was ok and I just smacked my head on the wheel since the air bag didn't deploy (more on that later.)

I always knew the only way I'd get any decent money out of this car was either by it being totaled or stolen. Sadly this way was the easier of the two. After dealing with some BS from Geico where I had it fully insured we reached a settlement and could move on once I received my check. In that time I found a few candidates for replacement focusing mainly on EK hatches or coupes. Decided on that because I planned on buying back the car to get my lower mile swap and other Si goodies and they'd be the easiest/most worth while recipients.

Found these two very clean hatches worth some further inspection...

Any clean rust free unmolested Honda is rare up here. EK hatches of that sort are almost non existent. Decided on the cleaner of the two mostly because it was already a 5 speed and was closer to home.

While still waiting on my check preparations for it's arrival began. A friend and I started the tear down on the Si at my uncle's house, in the snow and crap, at night by the light of my rental Prius' head lights, on gravel. Not so much fun but we got it done. Only drained the Prius' battery once! :D

As it was when we started.

And the next day (didn't get very many good pics mid-pull.)

We also pretty much stripped the interior down to nothing. I'm swapping whatever I can from it into the hatch, and whatever I don't use will be sold. Actually most of it already is. Si parts go fast!

Still need to pull the rear brakes and some other chassis components but that'll wait til we swap the motor into...

Filburt! 1998 Civic CX hatch

Picked it up today. :D Pretty much bone stock save for the adjustable Konis and Ground Control coil overs. Its pretty damn clean with only a couple tiny dents on the front fenders.

Interior is very clean as well (pics to be added later.) Somewhere along the line someone installed del Sol grey striped seats. Haven't decided whether I want to leave them in there (they're slightly worn) or swap in my fresh Si's. The Si's match the stock rears better and have more adjustment, but the Sols have really nice side bolster support. We shall see...

As I said, plans are to swap anything I can from the Si. JDM B16A/Y21 drop out. Wheels, rear disc brakes, sway bars, strut braces, etc. Possibly repro CTR front/rear lips and a duck bill spoiler. Window tint for sure. Probably gonna rock it for a little while, get my fun out of it, then flip it and get into something I really want. Something AWD turbo. :D

Til then, to hell with Vader, LONG LIVE FILBURT!!!

You're right about Ohio Drivers.

Glad you're alright and nice lookin replacement.

Edit: how much of the doors did you take off there? Could you possibly rip out the passenger window motor for me? I'll buy it.

Thanks y0! Both complete doors are sold to a friend. Honestly just about everything is spoken for. Heard from "friends" I haven't talked to in a while as soon as the pic went up on facebook. lol

Sucks to hear about your accident dude.. Glad you are ok. Hope you have better luck with this car!

Gah. I needed an EM1 window motor.

Also... Filburt? Did the car come with taped glasses and a pocket protector?

They were on their way out anyway. Yes Filburt! The car undeniably looks like a nerdy turtle, he's kinda silvery colored, has shitty luck, and I had nothing better. lol

I'm looking under the car now. Found the Konis and GC coil overs to be in good shape. It already has an ASR sway bar and chassis brace installed. Undercarriage is as clean as the outside. The more I look this car over the more I love it already.

Once I sell the D16Y7/5 speed drop out and a few other things here and there I'm only going to have about $2K in it. not bad for a cleeeean ass B swapped EK hatch. :D

lol :werd: on both counts.

Snapped a couple more pics while buzzing around getting used to this D series. For now...

Biggest crap part about this swap, modifying your coupes exhaust to fit that hatch's little ass.

Haha About that coupe exhaust... There almost wasn't one. At least not complete. Rusted off after the resonator in the fall. In a BP parking lot at about 3AM I had to get under the car's rear and pelvic thrust it off the ground to raise it enough to snake the rest of the piping through the suspension. Just another day in the life of my POS Si.

With that said, I'll be hooking my Hytech header's 2.5" collector up to the hatch's little exhaust system.

Or take this moment to locate another exhaust?

Meh. Maybe later when I have more money. At this point I just want to get the B16 and brakes swapped. Probably at most going to get a newer Si stock axle back or a twin loop replica. I don't want it to sound much louder than stock. I'll get enough sound out of my Password JDM intake. ;)

For an affordable (not cheap by any means) check out yonaka's cat back exhaust system. Something in the neighborhood of 259.00 shipped. It has a nice deep tone to it. Not too loud, not too quiet. If you want loud (like me) eliminate the resonator/cat...
