Any 24 Hours of LeMons Racers Here?

I've got 1st dibs on a $400 99' Prelude from a coworker. Has 260k on the clock and needs an engine. I'm debating trying to get a LeMons or Chump Car team together.

haha, I remember after doing a 2.5 hour stint driving balls to the walls in 105 degree ambient temp and not being able to get out of the car on my own or stand. They drug me out of the car for that driver change. I didn't realize how tired I was until I actually stopped. lol

Yeah, it was like 107 in the shade on both of our race days. Our car was flat black. :(

My teammates didn't want me to, but I put a little thermometer in the car. 129F was what it topped out at, and that's all it read the entire time I was driving...

I got out, took my fire suit and nomex underwear off, and stood there in front of the fan we had in our tent for like 30 seconds in my boxers before I realized that I wasn't going to be able to stand for any longer so I just sat down right there. lol.

This thread makes me really want to do this.

This would be cool, but the travel would be the largest cost to all of us on the team.

My team worked on our car for probably ten months with one day every weekend.

yeah, a non-local set up is tough. too much prep, storage, tooling, etc etc from a remote perspective

$400 poorer:ph34r:

You'll get a couple hundred for that interior, and another couple hundred for the set of wheels (it looks like they've been installed incorrectly.)

Shame you'll be doing this with a car with no body damage already... I say flip it for 2k and start from there.

If this spreadsheet makes sense:

-One of the team members had to take a flight to saint louis to get the car
-he drove it back, and got two speeding tickets
--one because the speedo didn't work
--second one because the speedo didn't work and the tail lights were out
-we sold a lot of stuff off the car

-one of the team mates was a welder, so no labor expense on the cage
-we got the cage for cost of tubing because our team mate who was a welder made a deal

Important thing to note is that we didn't start with NEGATIVE VALUE, like we thought, that fell under "fancy accounting tricks" and we started at zero. BUT because we didn't bring our documentation to the bullshit inspection, we started at $500. We got an additional $100 added because the radiator was brand new.

Hope this helps.

EDIT:
Actually, after thinking about it, we got the cage welded for the cost of four brand new 175/60r15 tires that came off my Honda Fit when it was new.

Yeah i'll most likely fix the motor, clean it up, and sell. The interior is in great shape, the car has a new clutch and suspesion, and the ac is allegedly still ice cold. I work with the guy who owned it since it was new, and he hopes it will be resurrected as a LeMons car. I've been wanting to do LeMons and Chump car, but I feel this thing is worth WAY too much when it is in running condition.

Don't race that car. That'd be sad to see something that could easily be sold for 2k to someone who needs it.

Plus from the sounds of it the judges prefer more "random" car choices. I'd go with something loopy and fun most normal people wouldn't think of.

The "judges" do it because it entertains them...

If you entertain them, you will get all of the leniency in the world. Put a slant six in ANYTHING and you'll get away with anything you do to cheat.

Of course, you're handicapping yourself by using a slant six. lol.

lol. Someone should build a steam powered lemon. Now THAT would be unusual.
