Jeeps. Cherokees, Grand Cherokees, Wranglers. Mostly the XJ, ZJ, and YJ. They can be had cheap. Like sub $1,500. I've seen some for as cheap as $600. The 4.0 H.O. is a tough, tough motor. You can haul friends and gear, or just run some stuff over. Easily up-gradable. Not a go fast vehicle, but plenty capable of getting most places (in the context of it still being a stock vehicle). I always have a good time driving one or riding in one.

Go fast for cheap? 1st gen Eclipses.

Ive allways liked the 1st gen eclipses, but from knowing of the extensive problems the 2nd gen ones have, never had the guts too buy one

Initial purchase prices, or further costs of ownership ?

Because Hondas will always top that list. But if you did the Celerity Plan with a C4 Corvette, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Buy C4 corvette.
Step 2: Drive it.

And a good one at about $6000 makes it the buy of the century.

I have always wanted one of these. I saw one yesterday and it would make a great beater for me.

I've never owned one, but I'm going to throw this out there:

2003-2005 Dodge SRT-4

The C4 may not be everyone's cup of tea as far as "Fun". (Like navigating around downtown with one is NOT fun)

There are also some 2nd gen RX-7s out there.

fun is relative.
it may be fast.
it may be 'how high can we jump this thing' worthy....
it may just be pimp.

i've had some damn good fun in an 88 caprice classic, some beat up junker trucks, and other various slow cars.

E30/36 BMWs. First Gen mini cooper. Mazda Miata. First Gen MR2. Anything with two wheels.

Oh yes... the first gen MR2. If you find one in a SC with a 5 speed - you get that fucking car.

You can't fit a briefcase in there. It's meant to be driven.
