Yeah, runs on Windows 8 apparently. Not sure how I feel about these new consoles being so other-than-games entertainment focused. How about you just play games...and do it well...and offer lots of cool exclusives. Sony's got my money so far, but I'll wait and see what everyone reveals at E3.

Also, I was underwhelmed by the Call of Duty footage. All they showed were cut-scenes and it really didn't look much different than current CoD cut-scenes. Guess I'll have to wait for some game play footage...

that thing is pretty big. more the size of an actual HTPC.

i wonder how that will be recieved by the console gamer. but on the plus side, maybe it will keep all the morons from being so lax with them. leaving them vulnerable to damage and whatnot.

i also find it amusing that Microsoft had to swallow their pride to get the Blu-ray drive in there.

and of course COD looks the same. it's the same game. its like playing FF7 on your PS3 and wondering why the graphics arent better.

i just did a quick search, does anyone know if the XB one will support 4k resolutions in games?

Well that's the thing...when they announced that CoD: Ghosts game they made a big deal out of the fact that it was finally going to run on a new game engine. Like I said though...it was mostly cut-scenes so I'll give them some leeway for now. If they show actual gameplay footage and it looks just like MW3 though...well, that will be disappointing...

Unrelated note...apparently the Kinect has to be hooked up and functioning at all times in order to use this thing? Uhhhh....

how else will nudes of customers get leaked online? itll be chalked up to a "glitch"

you can always toss electrical tape over the lens. that is what we recommend to users at the office who suffer from paranoia.

Eh, I'm not the overly paranoid type. Just wondering why they're making connect Kinect mandatory for everything you do on the machine though. It's weird. I mean...it's got a traditional controller, why does Kinect need to be on to play Gears of War? I'm interested to hear the reasoning...

I'm stoked for it. I use an xbox in my living room as a sort of htpc.

My other question is...where is the red ring of death on this thing? You know, so I know when it's malfunctioned and fried itself, necessitating repairs?

I am excited for sure about the One but am looking forward to really digging deep into what exactly is going on with everything after E3. Some of the statements about required internet connectivity is a little contradictory at the moment. I am really looking forward to the Kinect 2. I really like the current Kinect despite its "flaws".

Yeah, I was reading about that too. The last article I read yesterday said that apparently it doesn't need a CONSTANT Internet connection, but that it does have to "check in" with Microsoft every 24 hours.

Did you read anything on used games? Apparently they're not blocked, but you will have to install everything to the HDD so that the system can check whether or not that particular disk has been used before in another system. Apparently there will be a fee to install previously used games...no word on what that fee is yet...

EDIT: And yes, the Kinect 2 looks much more advanced than the previous version...

It seems like a lot of the "smaller" details are still not being addressed as well as they probably should. But to your question I have not seen anything concrete concerning used games yet.

The required install and tying it to your account will make visiting friends and playing a game a lot harder unless they have streamlined account migration.

The Verge just has an article up concerning indie game developers as well stating that Microsoft has not mentioned how indie developers will get on the X1. I do not play a ton of indie games but their are a few I enjoy so I am not sure how big of a deal that is for me.

Microsoft has a lot of questions left to answer but I think some of the rabble rouses in comments and other message boards are not understanding that E3 will be the gamecentric show. Also, neither console is coming out until November of this year. There is still plenty of time to judge and iron out any issues.

As an aside, I think it is interesting that Sony and Microsoft are taking two different paths really. Sony basically said, this is a gaming console and Microsoft said, this is our home entertainment device. For me anyway having a wife and youngish child being able to hook my cable box up to my Xbox, streaming music/movies and being able to play triple A titles makes the most sense for me.

A lot of the features coming through for the Xbox one will replace most media players and integrate with Live TV well. Also the announcement for the NFL partnership might bring NFL games to all xbox systems if its built into the price or something. That'd be freaking awesome!

Pretty thorough dissection according to info present:

AnandTech | The Xbox One: Hardware Analysis & Comparison to PlayStation 4

Essentially the same thing as the PS4 except weaker graphics but better thermals.

Interestingly enough, the XBOX will run two OSes in hypervisor (virtual machines), one for gaming and one for apps.

Depending on pricing, it will make or break it because, as mentioned, both consoles have zero differences between a PC besides software. For $400-$500, I could build a PC that would be upgrade able, similar size and better specs than what both systems are offering in current state.
