My engine is starting to get up there in mileage so I'm beginning to plan for the eventual motor swap. Unfortunately for me, I know nothing about this process.

What kinds of motors will be the easiest to install and find parts for?

Which one's will give me the best power?

What parts will I need in conjunction with the actual motor to make it work and pass inspections?

What kind of labor goes into a project like this, and how much would it cost to have a shop do it for me?

I'm wondering about these questions, but I am also interested in any other info you think may be relevant.

The easiest motor changeover is to put the same one in that you already have.
Upgrading, there's a few options like the f22b, h22, and h23.
Emissions will vary by your state and what they do. Where are you from? do they do sniffer or obd scans?
Parts will matter on engine choice and again your states rules for inspection. some like cali are tough. other states have none.

If you are at all mechanically inclined, it's not too hard to do it yourself. Most shops charge $1000 ish, give or take i would imagine to put in something other than the exact same engine.


Ultimately, what is your GOAL for the car? you mention more power, but for what? daily driving? looking to get into autsports?

I live in Texas. I don't know any specifics about the emissions testing, but I would imagine that they are lax, being Texas and all.

I am going to be using this car for daily driving and as a delivery driver. Ultimately, what I'm looking for is something with a much broader power application in terms of RPM. My current motor has no low end torque, which makes for uninspired driving.

Because I'm going to use it as a delivery car, I want it to be cheap to maintain over time. So, I have no intentions to add a turbo/nitrous. I just want something that can peak at maybe ~170hp with bolt-ons.

low end torque and Honda's do not compute. lol you probably have one of the better low end motors in there, stock. i'm not sure that what you want exists.

I think what you really need is a V6. Unfortunately they don't easily swap in to that chassis. The 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder on the 98+ Accords have the same engine bay, but that's not the case on the 94-97 models.

You can easily swap any FWD F-series engine or any H-series engine, but none of them will really give you any more torque...just more horsepower. If you're mechanically inclined at all you might actually consider a turbo. That would give you the low-end grunt you're looking for...
