Thanks guys !

Just got home from CT. Spent some time with family, been driving a rental (Wife went with me, and she didn't want to drive the Bimmer to see her family..so we rented) Hyundai Elantra.

What a piece of shit.

And while I'm on a rant,

Modern cars are enabling the idiocracy. This fucking car is a tub. It's enormous. There is no reason it has to be so goddam big. And it has 250 aibags and 1700 pounds of steel reinforcement and 400 pounds of plastic covers under the hood yet the suspension is spindly and cheap. It does everything that modern cars are expected to do : Good fuel economy (For being the size of a 76 Caddy it gets 40mpg), awesome leg room and 42 speakers. Oh, and satellite radio which is turning into Cable television.. there are just as many fucking ads on THAT are there were on radio when satellite radio was first sold.

And above 70mph I'm sure it was dangerous. I don't know, because it takes tidal forces on top of gravity to super charge that fat fuck to 65. Which is ok, because hitting the slightest bump in this behemoth is luxuriously absorbed by electronics, sensors, hydraulics, valves, and probably radioactive materials - Which makes it comfy as you're being tossed into the fucking break-down lane because it can't hold the pavement AT ALL. The car just flies out of control. I would be pissed.

Its a 2013 and it has 600 miles on it. So it's not beat in the slightest. But the seats are pure garbage, the braking is squirrelly as hell, and it's so long that the driver gets to the destination a couple minutes before the trunk.

This car is full of fail, and all modern cars that appeal to the idiocracy are full of fail as well. Oh, and the "manual" shifting does the same shit we were talking about in the Genesis thread: It doesn't really care what you want... it'll shift anyway. Which is particularly bad if you want to use it to launch in snow. It simply won't let you. the most useful feature of a "tip-tronic" selector ... and it doesn't even trust you with that nonsense.

And after driving a 10 year old, bottom of the line BMW for $6000 I was shocked - shocked I tell you to see that this car has a manual trunk release lever, no auto windows, a sloppy as shit cruise control and NONE of the other creature comforts that my BMW has.

I start off just about all of my "new car rants" this same exact way.

bmw owners dont wish each other happy birthday, they graciously cup the balls and smile, and walk away.
not a word is said, but they know what it means.

happy birthday buddy!

new elantras are big. really big. i dont care for them either. anything but the GT model is crap, and that thing is as big as a WRX.

its tough to think that the veloster/accent of now, is still smaller than kristens 02 gls (fully loaded minus leather and rear disc)

My neighbors across the street (3 of them with a combined 1500 pound weight) finally traded in their creaky, bent-in-half Ford Exploder for one of these Hyundais.

The chassis seems to handle their meat pretty well, and I'm sure they'll take advantage of the cheese reservoirs and refrigeration so their folds don't spoil.

And the bartender at a waterbury brazilian bar that I'm a regular at (Don't ask) got one last weekend too. The girls are falling all over this. But it may because he owns a brazilian bar as well. The chicks there normally dig on the Bimmer. But I was shadowed last week by a fucking hyundai.

Happy birthday dude.

Amy is getting a new car, a Civic coupe. Nothing under 22k is worth having anymore...

What we're seeing is the effects of a devalued dollar. Plain and simple.

I thought you lived in PA not CT

I live in PA. I work in CT.

This fall I'm on the market for another room for rent.. I'm only there 1 or 2 days a week, so I'm looking for something cheap where my roommates won't see me.

I could sleep in a closet really. Oh, and I would need keys and access 24/7. It's a pretty tall order.

I'm talking to The Curtis House in a few weeks about it. So maybe, with luck, that'll happen.

And I have a room at my friend's house, but the place is a goddam zoo. Trying to avoid that one.

But yeah, I have a weekly meeting at this bar in Waterbury. I meet up with a few regular clients and do karaoke or whatever.
