Surfing CL will be the death of me.

Anyway, going to check out a 1993 Del Sol tonight. Price was too good to not go look. In talking to the guy, it actually has a mini-me swap in it.

Clearly, it's not perfect. But if it was, it'd be a few grand more. Only issues I know about are a misfire on 2 and a slipping clutch. Still runs and drives though. I've dealt with enough misfires that I'm sure it's just something stupid. Slipping clutch, not exactly something I want to tackle in the driveway, but like I said, the price is right.

What do you guys think?
 
$700. I'm told it has a little in the rear quarters. What Honda in NJ doesn't? Mine is going to need attention soon too.
 
that's triple what I would pay for that dude....

hit, mismatched, not running right, needs work, rust... hood isn't siting right, roof probably leaks.....
 
I'm just going to look at it. I didn't commit to anything. I'll make sure the lines are right. I'm not looking for a show car. Honestly, I think I can bring it home and sell it for more than twice that with zero work done. We will see.
 
Checked it out. Guy was actually real cool. Had a lift in his backyard, haha. Also had a real nice green GSR. He got the del sol as payment from a friend for building a motor. It's lowered on coil overs on tokico blues. Hood is lined up fine. Pic was with it popped but not open.

Problems I was worried about
1. Slipping clutch. The car actually comes with a new one. He said he'd toss it in for a couple of bucks.
2. Paint/panels. Paint is rough, but not terrible. Panels were put on because they were cleaner than the ones on it. White top doesn't leak. Actually has the blue one in the trunk.
3. Rear quarters. This is the area I'm worried about. Both sides need attention. They don't make patch panels for a del sol either. If they did, he actually said he'd weld them in. Like I said, was actually a real cool, knowledgable dude.

I told him I'd make a decision and hit him up tomorrow. Like I said, the rear quarters are the only thing I'm worried about. Don't know how to approach it.

That's a good point. Mini-me looks good. A lot of straight panels. Great suspension parts. But I've also wanted one since I was 17. Might try to fix it first, haha.

I wonder if there would be a market for fiberglass rear quarters. Searching around, it really seems like to fix them, you either buy new ones from Honda for almost a grand in parts alone, weld in patches, or bondo the hell out of it.
 
I might try my hand at fiberglass. Maybe just patches, maybe try a whole panel. IDK. I've always wanted to try it. Worst case, fix it again.
 
not worth it..theres no way the roof doesnt leak..the only ones that dont leak are the 97's and the ones that have been greased regularly from day 1. the rot is probably really bad under the skirts, especially seeing how bad it is on the quarters.
 
My rationale was that it's just $700 for a fun car for the summer, and I've paid more for less. And the sum of the parts is worth more than the price. But I'm still not sure.

I'm going to do some numbers right here just to see.
$700- initial purchase
$200- clutch install
$200- new springs. It sits too low for me and I don't like sleeved coilovers.
$250- new tires

Before I even get to rust repair and paint I'm going to be in this thing $1400. That doesn't take into consideration the miss either. I imagine its a cheap fix, but it could not be.

Still, automatic del sols are going on CL for between 1500 and 3000 depending on condition.

For about a $2k investment I can have a pretty great commuter/fun car. Damn it, I keep talking myself in and out of this thing.

I'm aware. Seems to me that a fiberglass mold is a fiberglass mold. Bigger or smaller, it's the same general idea. Or I could just make a glass patch panel. Kills the rust, make it cosmetically pleasing. I like learning new skills, so it could be fun.

Very possible. But there aren't many del sols in my area. Even fewer are perfect examples. And they want astronomical money for them anyway.
 
I know what they look like, I know what they cost. Hence why I presented the option of not doing a full replacement panel, or doing a fiberglass panel. I've looked into this more than you guys realize I think. I didn't just sit around twiddling my thumbs thinking about how cool I'll look in one.
