How compatible are the DC and EG chassis?

It's only stupid if it doesn't work

So I have been "thinking" about swapping the transmission on my DC since I joined this site. Well today I came across a 1993 EG with a B16 that has been rear ended. The price is definitely right if what I'm thinking will work.

Can I use the EG as a donor car for my 5spd swap? From my understanding they are very similar, if not identical, as far as the engine bay goes. What do you think?

so you want to swap in the B16 transmission to your integra?

that will be a straight swap. pretty much pull the old one out, and put the new one in IIRC.

maybe throw in a new clutch while youre at it?

It's not just a transmission swap, it's also an automatic to manual conversion. Also, it's kind of funny.... if a new guy had posted this, ten people would have already berated him and told him to use the search function, and at least one person would have posted the lmgtfy link.

Haha I definitely searched first. Couldn't find a thing. I guess not too many people try to use a donor EG to swap auto to manual in a DC. And it's actually an LS trans in the EG, which I prefer at the moment.

Oh ok. I didn't realize it was an auto->manual too.

In this case the fact that it's coming out of an EG is pretty irrelevant. It's a B series trans that, since it's an LS, originally came out of an integra anyway.

That said, the EG and DC are highly compatible. They are basically the same car with different body work.

I was under that impression, but didn't want to assume. But you're the second person to confirm it for me, so I'm going to continue moving forward with buying this EG.

Here is a random, off the wall question, that doesn't really relate. Are the radiator supports the same width? Like when someone puts a DC from on an EG, do they even have to modify the support?

the pedal assembly and all that jazz should be the same... i used a bunch of integra stuff in my del sol and it all bolted directly up so i see no reason why the opposite would not also be true

Again I think it's a straight swap. 80% sure
Hmmmmmmm.

Haha... I think I did that chop
Yea it was. And I was the one who insisted you do it so I could see the potential, haha.

Like I said in that thread, from a little run in with a barrier ~4 years back, my radiator support, hood, bumper, and fenders are no longer straight. In the world of Honda, it's amazing no one has tried it before. I think they've stuck just about every other front end on the DC and EG.

They are about 95% the same, the firewall, wheel wells, mount brackets are identical, as in the exact same, the front sub structure is pretty much the same, but the radiator mounts are slightly taller on the Civic (has smaller radiator), and the front where the head lights mount is more straight across on a teg.

Are you saying the radiator support is different? Or where the radiator support actually mounts to the body? Basically, what I'm asking is if the EG support with line up with where the DC support is mounted/welded.

I am pretty sure if you remove the DC one, the EG support will fit, but it's been a while since I've been inside either bay, but from what I remember the differences are superficial, and the sub structures are the same.

The B16 on the LS tranny isn't going to be all that fun, but I guess if you're trying to build up your car in stages, that will at least get you all set up for B-series and then you could upgrade the gearbox later...
