It's only stupid if it doesn't work

From time to time I'll get a pinched nerve in my back (I have one right now). It'll make it difficult to move and a pain in the ass to get a good night sleep. Usually it's caused by a knot, so a massage generally relaxes the tension. The one I have now actually starts all the way at my shoulder and I'm getting pain all the way down to my leg. Anyone else deal with this constant problem?

A new one I'm dealing with is a pinched nerve in my arm. It's causing numbness in my pinky and ring finger. Apparently this condition is like Carpal Tunnel, but with a different nerve. I'm hoping this works itself out with some home remedies, because just like Carpal Tunnel, it can require surgery. It's also annoying as hell because it feels like I hit my funny bone 24/7 and my grip strength is dramatically reduced.

My left pinky and ring finger get that from time to time when I type a lot. It's so annoying.

really, all you can do is focus on posture and take breaks. stretch. do arm circles at the desk, etc.

I got it from time to time before this. I'd move my arm around and it would slowly return to normal. This episode has lasted for about a week. I even propped my arm straight while I slept last night with no success.

Usual suspects for radiating pain into your legs its a Disc Herniation in the back pressing on nerve root. Depending on the severity it may require surgery. If you are loosing bladder control, go to the ER immediately.

Shooting pain in the arms could be a lot of things. Elbow/Arm pain could be Cubital Tunel syndrome or Epicondylitis. Or it could be a Cervical Herniation pressing on a nerve in your neck causing radiating pain into your arm.

Sometimes the herniation can be treated with physical therapy/chiro and injections or they may just resolve with time(doubtful)

Only way to tell is diagnostic testing with MRI's and EMG/NCS.

Seek out a specialist for those body parts.

Unfortunately, the back is business as usual. It doesn't even concern me. It will work itself out.

The arm isn't really pain. I have a numbness in my pinky and ring finger that I think is a pinched Ulnar nerve. I researched and that's a perfect match for my symptoms.

Like I said, it's only been a week. If they're still persisting after a little more time, I'll seek out a doctor.

If its the Ulnar Nerve and surgery is needed, they just move it to a different part of your arm so it doesn't get irritated by daily activites.

ulnar nerve transposition is what the surgery is. minor fr the most part

you know what really helps pinched nerves? vacations to australia... DO IT!!!

I had the ulnar nerve. It seemed to go away when I had my carpal tunnel surgery. I am not sure if it just worked itself out, or if it was something from the surgery. The surgeon did nothing to my ulnar nerve.
Have you tried using a wrist brace at night? The cheapest one I have found has been at a grocery store.

Good info here.

Herniations both lumbar and cervical are common culprits for the leg, arm or hand pain. I also see people that get the numbness in their arms from shoulder impingements on a regular basis.

I deal with this occasionally. I have a really old bed that sucks badly, and I continually sleep with my neck crooked which always puts one or two vertebrae out of alignment and pinches a nerve or two in my hands.

What's the recovery like from surgery? Time frame, and mobility. Just curious.

The back is already good. Like I said, a knot pressing on a nerve. Had a friend work it out, that pain is gone. Very common for me.

The hand numbness is still here. I have little doubt it's not the Ulnar. A common symptom is numbness in the pinky and half the ring finger. Half a finger? Is that possible? Yea, it is. Pretty crazy feeling.
Also, I know life is lonely, but quit cranking it so furiously.
Haha, I actually have a female friend at the moment.

I've had a recurring issue since highschool, every few months to a year I'll get a nasty crick in my neck on the right side, with a shooting pain if I tilt my head to the right. Usually starts if I sleep funny, and it just started again this morning, probably because the wife had the baby sleep in the bed with us last night since he was so fussy... I was sleeping like a pretzel because I was afraid to roll on him.

Probably a pinched nerve or a disc issue, maybe even a muscle spasm (I've noticed my right shoulder sits lower when it happens), though I've never seen anyone for it yet. Clears up in a few days usually.

i was just about to make this very thread, well about 2 weeks ago that is, im having almost the same problem pain that hurts like hell in my shoulder and lost of motion in that arm and numbness all across my back, after a few weeks of testing, doc says he is pretty sure i have parsonage turner syndrome. sayd most of the time they just treat your pain and it ges away in about a year, if its there for around 2 years they will do surgery to replace the nerves. this shit sux for sure. pain meds hasn't helped so far. they also have me on neurontin for it.

Fuck I hope your back pain goes away.....I said the same think two years and three months....and 4 back surgeries ago...not fun!

Most important thing after surgery is PT.

Sorry to hear about that. That sounds like it sucks.

Mine is a little different though. Like I said, back is already good. Hand is still fucked though. The Ulnar nerve is actually what you hit when you hit your "funny bone". Picture that feeling 24/7. It sucks, but it's more of a nuisance than anything. My grip is diminished, but I was still able to break loose rusty exhaust bolts the other night.
