Stuck in a jam. Can I put a d15 head non vtec on my d16z6 vtec motor for a bit while I repair the d16 head. I need the car and can't wait while I fix the head. Can I use the same harness and do I have to put the non vtec computer in while I run this way. I have a complete parts car to rob from.

Thanks for any help.

TBH, I'm not sure if this is possible, but from what I know about the engines in question, it SHOULD be.

You'll definitely want to use the other ECU with your current harness, so no issues there. As long as you use the non-vtec computer you shouldn't get any CELs.

I think the only likely problem is length of the head bolts. You might be okay with the z6 bolts, you might not.

I know you aren't planning to run it like this for an extended period of time, but i'd highly recommend a new head gasket.

If it's a huge issue for you to be without this engine until new valves come in, then giving it a test to make sure everything fits together is well worth your time.

K thanks for the advice. I'm going to give it a try. I need the car for going to work so I can't wait. I was worried about the timing being different. Is it the same (I don't want to bend any more valves). Do you no if I can use the vtec distributor or should I use the one from the parts car engine(non vtec)

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know any of the answers to those questions.

For distributors it's many times easier to just use the distributor for your harness. The timing SHOULDN'T be different, but I dont have the for sure answer.

K I will give it a try. Should i use the head gasket from the 1.6 or the 1.5 or does it make a difference. I think the 1.6 gasket is thinner but i'm not looking for performance out of this just trying to get by in a jam.

Thanks for all ur help.

Use the z6 gasket. you're going to lower your compression ratio with that head, the z6 head gasket will put you back in the 9:1 neighborhood a stock d15b7 has (which is what the PM3 ECU is programmed for).

the D16Z6 distributor will not bolt onto the D15 head - use the D15 distributor

if i remember correctly the D15 block has an oil jet in it to get oil in to the head
the D16Z6 does not, it has the jet in the head

i remember i had to remove the jet from the D15 block when i had to make my reverse minime back in the day

this was about 10 years ago so my memory is a bit iffy on this
