I wonder what aluminum will do to the cost of the overall vehicle.
 
I know in the case of the Insight, it actually increased torsional rigidity. Then again they hemorrhaged money on every one they sold.

The 15 F150 is a good looking truck though.

i wonder if that's going to be all of them or just top of the line models with certain engines.

Doesn't make sense to add cost to the $25,000 base XL 2WD model.

My assumption it will only be offered on the Lariat, Platinum, Limited, FX and Raptor Models
 
article says they are re-tooling the shop and having down time for it for months. There will no longer be steel frames it looks like.
 
I'm more excited about the 2015 Nissan Titan....5.0 CumminsTurbo Diesel expected to be 300+HP and 500+tq...and anew Design...way better MPG's

It also looks like they may be offering a 2.8L Turbo Diesel boasting 210Hp and 385tq and getting 26+ MPG for a lower end engine

i might be trading mine in for 2015
 
I wonder if theft will go up on these. Interesting, I wonder how well they will hold up long term. Still wish they would put a man pedal in full sized trucks.
 
All the F150 trucks will be alum.

Land Rover(ford company) did the same thing with their range rover but the actual wasn't nearly as much as the estimates weight loss.

The 3.5 v6 has a ton of power and puts out OK gas mileage. We'll see if they can break true realworld 20mpg. Currently I think its getting around 18.

We'll see how they come to market. Cummins has an S ton of engine designs these days.
 
I highly doubt the 2015 will be 25k more than the 2014 lol. In fact, I doubt it'll be a substantial price difference at all.
 
It'll be marginal at best. Ford already said the profit margin is going to go down. But the margin is their largest in their line up. And its the most selling vehicle they have.
 
It's also a part of CAFE standards guys. The gov't mandates higher fleet averages. If your best selling vehicle is on the wrong side of that standard, you're fucked.
 
How are the government mandates written? Is it an average of all the trim lines? Or if their 4x2 6 cyl makes the cut, they're all good?
 
Do volume sold numbers come into play? I bet they sell a lot of the trimmed down ones as work trucks and fleet vehicles.


It would make more sense that each trim factors in equally though.

It doesn't make manufacturing sense to build two separate frames with different materials on the same line.
