This is more directed at Wil (Civicious). If I'm looking to spend $7-$12k on a newer car, what would be my best bet. I'm looking for Audi comfort, rear or all wheel, preferably manual, with at least 220hp. Creature comforts are a big plus. Reliability is fairly important. I know how to maintain my cars. I'd rather not have to pull the motor to do a timing belt (stupid Audi).

I really like the S4, but I already know how you feel about that. Any good suggestions?

I've considered E36 M3, AMG something maybe, etc?

You should be able to pick up an E46 M3 or an early 2000's AMG (CLK 55 or E55, non supercharged AMG v8) for under 12k. Any of those are great cars provided they've been taken care of.

If you want an Audi, get an Audi - but be prepared to do a good bit of work on it :p

I font remember when I posted this lol. It was awhile ago. I'm too lazy to go look for the date. I ended up getting a 2000 S4. Turbos were replaced recently by the dealer. The original owner had driven it awhile with an over boost problem. The guy I bought it from had the dealer do all the work about 30k miles ago.

I did the timing belt, water pump and thermostat, etc when I bought it. Was fairly straightforward. Its not my main vehicle so I took my time.

Contemplating a 323i for the fiance though. Or something. Maybe an A6 2.8 Quattro Avant. We really like Audis. Most everything I've come across maintenance wise has been easy enough just a little tedious.

Realky want an E46 M3 someday but I need more parking spaces lol.

buy a house

I know i know, she got a new job so we're able to save now. I just like talking about cars. :dunno:, I'm just an addict lol.

I'm actually working towards being a stater. I know its not for everyone but I think it would be a rewarding and fun job for me.

wait....fiance? when did that happen?

December! Hadn't posted about it here. We've been together four years now. Living together for three. Still have just as much fun as when we met even though we work more hours and aren't carpooling anymore.

it's getting better in 1.3 as well (we are on 1.2). lots of cool stuff in the pipe for this board.

I have a buddy that is a trooper(tons more that are just cops). He loves it. He's also an Air Force Reserve Officer, so he does really well. I feel like he never works. I'll see that he's in Tahoe, or Park City, or CO. Definitely would hgave done things different if I could go back ten years.
Thank you gentlemen.

This new multi-quote is excellent btw @Briansol
More for the rest of us!!

Seriously though, congrats.

Transmission question. I know Wil is in crunch time so others with experience are welcome to help :)

2000 Honda Insight 5 speed

I pulled the transmission out of my insight a little while ago. I replaced the input shaft bearing and put it back together. I removed the shift forks, primary, and secondary shafts and the output gear, but I never disassembled the shafts themselves. When I put it all back in, I put it in the car and tried to move. I had very very stiff left and right movement but it felt like it went into gear. When I started it up it acted like it was in 4thish gear. It wouldn't go in any other gear and it was still engaged while in the "neutral" position with the shift knob. So I pulled the shift selector out of the transmission and messed around with it a little bit. It helped out with the left right movement but it's still stuck in gear. So I pulled it back out.

I plan on separating the case and finding true neutral and reassembling. It came apart in neutral, and I believe needs to go back together in neutral too. I'll actually check for output movement this time though.

Any other suggestions?
