For my 2014 resolution, I just decided to read more books. So far I've gotten through Lone Survivor (Highly recommend, especially before you go see the movie), and a book my friend gave me a year ago called Agent ZigZag (true story of a British WWII spy who was an effective double agent).

Just picked up three more books today recommended by some friends. Gates of Fire, The Long Walk, and Double Cross, which was written by the same guy who wrote Agent ZigZag.

I normally like to stay in non-fiction, auto biographies and anything related to US/ World History or the two world wars. Anything else you guys have read that will recommend?

I stay non-fiction. Don't generally like the movie books though. I have a stack I need to start working on again.

Yeah I read a lot of books. I'm reading Sycamore Row by John Grisham. I usually read a book a week.

I go through phases where i read books, a mix of fiction and a nonfiction.

For fiction... I dont know if you have already read any of them, but michael crighton has a lot of really great books, lots of science stuff, and realistic. I like dean koontz, and stephen hunter has a few good ones, he writes lots of action, involving a lot of guns and tactical shit... soft target by him was cool, dirty white boys, and the bob swagger series is good if you like suspenseful action.

Ever read Carl Hiassen? I've read most of his books. Great author, but basically the opposite of what you described above.

No i havent, and im def open for suggestions.

For non fiction, i have been reading a lot of survival books (wild plant field guides, processing animals, subsistence farming, setting up traps, etc.). Also like to read history, physics, and love field guides of just about anything, all my friends know im the walking field guide, i can identify most anything, and tell you about it, lol.

He writes mostly comedy and a lot of it is about protecting the everglades and florida characters. Because we all read about the crazy S that happens in florida.

Okay, why the fuck did it take me so long to realize that phunky was Calesta?

If you like Epic Fantasy type stuff....I HIGHLLYYYYYY HIGGGGHHHHHHHHHLLYYY recommend Patrick Rothfuss's series The King Killer Chronicles: The Name of the Wind: Book 1 and The Wise Man's Fear: Book 2

I did them on Audio Book and I have listen to each book 7 times.....i'm an addict of these two books...I truely belive this book will be the next Lord of the Rings and Rothfuss will be the next J.R.R. Tolkein. I'm considering buying the First Edition/First Release and storing them.

The Mist of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley--was my favorite book before Patrick Rothfuss--Epic Fantasy

The Millenium Triliogy by Stegi Larson is outstanding as well which is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Played with Fire and Kicked the Hornets Nest which is murder mystery type series.

As gay as it may sound...The Hunger Games series was awesome..I read those twice.

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand which is based on true story of the life of Louie Zamperini--INCREDIBLE story --WWII category

Anything by Neil Gaiman--American Gods i ready twice and Neverwhere

World War Z

Day by Day Armageddon and Exile by JL Bourne--real good zombie books

The Book Theif--was an ok book, didn't like it much but now there is a movie out on it which i may see

Right now i am waiting on Rothrfuss's book 3 hopefully released this year

I'm going to check out a few of those books you put up. Love me some passion for book thumping.

I've read hunger games series, the girl with the dragon tattoo series, and the zombie books, but not a lot of the others.

Same avatar, same tag line, same email address that I haven't taken too much effort to hide...

Gaiman's an awesome writer. I've heard a ton about Rothfuss too, but haven't read any of his yet.

Those are just the big name books- there are a ton of other awesome titles that aren't on the "best seller" (publisher paid NYT a ton of cash) lists.

Oh yeah. I read a lot of random books as well. I have a tough time recalling what I read though. When I got a kindle, my reading went through the roof.

While I can't buy cheap books at half price and the library is short on books for the kindle in my area, I rarely don't have something to read. Lately I've been alternating classic novels and new stuff.

Classic classics or classic sci-fi? :)

I read Play Boy. You know, for the articles.

I dont read nearly as much as I should. I still carry a lot of resentment from being forced to read shitty books in school. The last few books I chose to read, I liked. My problem is finding time to pick one out, and then making time to read it.

Ive got more pressing matters to attend to. Like posting in internet forums about how busy I am.

I'm currently reading the classic The Count of Monte Cristo. I't's pretty good so far - kind of slow at the moment. He's working his way back into the high-class society to wreak havoc on those responsible for his imprisonment. I've been on a classic run reading Catcher in the Rye, A Brave New World, and 1984.

The entire Game of Thrones series is fantastic. As well as the LOTR and Ender's Game series.

The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini were excellent reads.

If you're interested in thriller/mystery, anything by James Patterson, Michael Connolly, Patricia Cornwell, Tess Gerritsen, or John Grisham.

My next read is Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson. It was highly recommended by a friend of mine.
