Sitting here at my desk, not even using it, I happen to glance over and see an android screen of kernel error and the green logo guy. It worked fine this morning... listened to music on the way in and had a few texts back and forth too

ok, that's odd.

shut it down with the power button. turns off.
turn it back on, gets stuck on splash screen.

Pull battery
turn on after 30 seconds, stuck on splash screen.

WTF

any ideas how to get this thing to boot up?

phone is a Samsung galaxy sII I9100 running 4.2 via cyanogenmod and has been for the past year or so without issue. I haven't installed anything new recently.

dunno how much faith i put in it so i removed the video

it said its a semi common issue
the cause is the power button sticking
remove the battery and give the phone a few firm smacks against a hard surface on the power button side to get it to release
being careful not to crack your screen

sounds kinda plausible but sketchy so i dunno

ill see if i can find any other ideas

I did a factory restore with vol down + power + home key boot.
it's downloading something now... like an os. lol

good thing google has all my shit backed up.

ok, the factory reset failed to fully download. I ended up downloading a stable release of cyanogenmod and shoved it on the phone via usb. Man, that software is the shit. They should just make phones. Detected everything, did a nice upgrade path, rebooted, and my phone is working again without losing a thing.

i'm late...but yeah good job...you got corrupted files some how..always keep a spare stock ROM and ODIN so you can load it in case of a softbrick

I just got the SGS4. Rooted it. Didn't load Cyanogen yet or any other ROMS. Going to wait a bit.
