Headphones

For the past couple years I have been using IBeats by Dre Dre"In the ear" headphones that came with my HTC Rezound.. but lately i have been getting crusty wax ear(does this happen to anyone else?). I know, thats hot right? Relax ..i clean my ears 3 times a week. Anyway.. I stopped using the headphones for 2 weeks and the problem went away. Awesome...my ears are nice and clean.

However, I listen to audibooks and music all day long at work and when i travel on planes, which is alot, well at least 10 trips a year which is a lot for me.

So since i got $250 in Amazon cards for my Bday Sunday i decided im going to get some nice Over the Ear Headphones.

I looked around a lot...Beats and Bose were out of the question

But i stumbled upon these....

Beyerdynamic Dt990 32OHM--They seem to be really high quality, made in Germany and got great reviews--I found some refurbished ones for $235

Does anyone have any experience with Hi-End headphones and portable Amps? What do you guys use?

I have a pair of B's for my studio headphones. They sound great and don't tire my ears out. These are huge bulky sit in a chair ones though.

I haven't really kept up with the times when it comes to headphones, but my favorite are the Sennheiser 555's. A quick Google shows that they're getting hard to find but you can still get them.

yeah its tough to find quality stuff that's not made in China anyore. Thats why i went with Beyerdynamics 100% german engineered and made

AKG, Sennheiser, B&O, Beats, Monster and other big name headphone companies have moved most of their product lines to china(except for the real high end stuff)

I do like my Pioneer HDJ-2000. Good performance, Highs are good, bass is NOT heavy (if you want beats bass they're not for you) and mids are perfect. The bass isn't bad, it's just appropriate for headphones. You can feel the beat but it doesn't rock your head.

They're pretty nice and I've been rocking em for almost 4 years now.

i have the dt770pros that i use. beyerdynamic makes a great product.
i love them. i modded mine a bit by opening them up and removing a little piece of felt baffling in each side. opened the bottom end up a lot and didnt mud up the sound at all.

while shopping though, you'll want to avoid the open/vented cans if you plan on using these for travel. they dont prevent any noise from coming in or out.
you're neighbor will hate you and you'll still hear people talking and babies crying.

theres are pros and cons to open and closed cans, but if used outside of the house, closed/sealed are the way to go.

figures i bought open ones lol.....i just bought the Custom One Pro's just now as well so i will have both of them to Compare... I leave for Cali on Sunday so one of them is coming with me. I'll return one pair

well i just tested out the DT990s and my neighbors down the street told me to turn down my music...its a dam shame cause these things sound phenomenal simply plugged into my GS4 and even better when plugged into my Yamaha A/V Receiver...i dont have much to compare them to because i have always used in the ear headphones.

The Custom One Pros come in tomorrow and hopefully they will be a little better with keeping the sound inside the headphone

**also just bought the V-moda M100's as well, we'll see which ones work best

Ok.... The Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro's are fucking awesome...I can't wait to try them out with the DAC/AMP. The V-MODA Crossfade M100s are coming in today as well as the Amp.

If anyone can find any info on where V-MODA's are made that would be great...i can't find out shit about where they are made, it's usually pretty easy

I know VModa phone amps are made in japan, no idea about the headphones.

Welp i just spent about 1.5 hours of listening to both Headphones amped to the FIIO 17. They both really really sound great. I think the Beyerdynamics may have an ever so slight better build quality but the V-MODAs have a tiny slight better edge in the way they sound to me. The V-MODA's are also sleeker and fold. Both can be customized. I really do like the fact that the Custom One Pro's can change the bass settings with the sliders on each headphone however, because i have the amp, i can just turn down the bass and the treble if i need to.

So i'm keeping the V-MODA Crossfade M100. I wish can keep both but one has to go.
