2.4 VTEC exhaust upgrade

I bought an 05 Element from a Honda Afficianado who had already installed a K&N cold air intake system - but it still didn't seem to run right? So l pulled the muffler (which was kind of beat up anyway) and ran a straight pipe in its place...

Other than needing more time to warm up on cold mornings (which are rare in Dallas) the engine seems to run much better w/ only the CAT and resonator - but when l hit 4000 RPMs and the VTEC system kicks in she now sounds like an NSX! LOL I guess the extra air forced in by the K&N intake needed additional output to be more effective? Besides the improved sound there is also a noticeable increase in power beyond 4K revs - especially when I shift into 2nd & 3rd gear

My question is simple - is there anything that may damage my engine as a result of this exhaust mod? Also will the changes increase or decrease my fuel efficiency?

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Extremely doubtful... you only replaced the muffler. If you see any changes in fuel efficiency it MIGHT be a slight economy increase.

Sounds like you just relived your motor of the back pressure it had caused by the intake being installed... taking away the muffler restriction and now the engine mite see a few hp gain...
