its been awhile since ive been on, so i figured id stop in with the latest, ask a couple questions, and to see how you all are doing.

So over the past couple months I.....
-moved from a shitty apartment in a shitty part of town, to an ok apartment in a nice area outside of town.
-had an independent contractor job working fire inspection at a local nursing home that was supposed to turn into a full time deal and i got jerked around with that twice. so now im jobless
-obtained my CDLA with double, triple, tanker, and airbrake endorsements.
-still driving my old trusty 90 chevy truck.
-took a couple session off from school due to financial aid issues
-started looking into religion, ive become friends with a couple missionaries(mormon), and attending church this sunday for the first time in very many years.


and now here i am 4 classes(ill be done in february) away from graduating with my diploma in automotive, high performance, and alternative fuels with CDLA, and im very badly wanting to get out of BLOWHIO. so here are my thoughts.

what area are you from and how is the living. im soon to be 26 and want to start settling for the long run, but figure i still have time to test out new places. where should i go? my wife is in the nursing field and i have no problem trucking, so really anywhere should be open to a new life?
 
My suggestions:
Indiana, the trucking capital of the US.
Tennessee, the more liberal trucking capital of the US.
Once you've done that for a while, figure out what you really want to do. I'm 26 and I'm about to hop careers. Do what makes you happy.
 
I know a bit about the truck trade.....

My largest suggestion would be signing onto a good company. Doesn't matter where you're at, they'll probably have a hub near ya. Go for a company that has a good reputation for both safety and innovation, and takes care of their people and is growing. Tonnage is at an all time high and good drivers are scarce.

Trucking companies here are always hiring.
 
tennessee isnt a bad place to live. around nashville there is plenty to do, and go a little further out to buy and its pretty damn cheap.
lots of trucking companies in the area, and every town has a hospital, but, with lipscomb, belmont, vandy, and mtsu all having good to great nursing programs it may make finding a nursing job a little tough.
 
Am I crazy or did you have back issues in the past? I forget whether you posted in the spinal fusion thread. What I can say about driving - although I don't drive at truck, I have driven anywhere from 20,000-40,000 miles annually for the last 10 years - is that sitting will eventually destroy your health. My back and hips significantly degenerated (although they were not great to begin with) within three years of being in a car to drive into the office and then visit clients all day.

I cut my driving down as much as possible now - but thankfully I am at a point in my career where I can do that, although it does ultimately reduce the amount of money that I make. As I get older, health > money.
 
not sure if i posted in the spinal thread, but yes i do have back issues from a racing accident in 07. ive driven 5 different tractors so far and all of them have enough seat adjustment for me to be comfortable, obviously that will be put to the test over time. and the air ride really does help. im going to really do some research when it comes to locations to move..i dont want to get into something thats going to be miserable living.
 
If you have back issues, stay away from Tractor Trailer driving...you'll end up crippled. Trust me, we do A LOT OF TRUCKING Business and these guys are all sorts of fucked up....jsut from driving

just my advice...

If you choose to drive anyway...check out Paschall Truck Line, i know they hire out of most of the south/mw states. They are 100% Employee owned. You'll have to pass a physical ..don't lie on the app when they ask you if you have any previous injuries because when you do get injured and try to file a workers comp claim and they subpoena your medical records, they will find out you lied on the app and fire you and then the insurance company will deny your claim and you will be royally fucked...

As far as moving...Stay the fuck out of the East Coast....i would move to TN, plenty of trucking jobs, Nashville and surrounding areas like Franklin are nice. Stay way from NY/CT/MA/NJ/CA

I would look at Rural PA/TN/KY/TX/OK
 
well we had the idea to move to northern NH, the wifes family owns a good bit of land with a log cabing(they live there) and a couple hundred feet down the private road is a 6 bedroom they also own. but her mother is acting shady about the whole deal, and makes us feel as if she doesnt want us there. my other plan has been NC mainly the charlotte area, but it seems as though this is the go to place for alot of people, and i know how its going to end up in a couple years. might look into heading out west, even though this has never been a thought in my mind, but i will surely stay the eff out of cali.

as for my back, it was never dealt with medically, so there are no records of that. the issues arent near as bad as they were years ago, but do flare up every now and then.
 
I lived in Georgia for a good while, its nice. Being from florida and raised pretty salty, its certainly my favorite place to live, but GA would be my second. Everything is cheap, there are a fair number of jobs, and there is a lot to do (atlanta metro area at least) GA is similar to TN is some ways, but i like it more.
 
wife was interested in atlanta, im not too sure of it. ive been looking around florida as well, my father is in ocala i believe.

O yeah NC, Charlotte area is real nice. I have a friend who lives in Moorseville, she's a Helicopter nurse...she moved there for College and never came back...she absolutely loves it down there....I've been 4-5 times for work and she has taken me around Charlotte....very nice down there, that would be my second choice. They have the most retired athletes per capita so you have a good chance of seeing someone famous.

We had dinner at McCormick and Schmicks and we saw a Carolina Panther signing contracts with his Agent...wasn't sure who it was but he had all sorts of Carolina Panther swag and she said that it happens all the time in the restaurants in Charlotte.
 
@INJEN78 glad to see you back, nurses make bank in the Seattle area. Tons of healthcare job opportunities. Also lots of trucking jobs available here. Come the Pac NW. Liberals on one half and conservatives on the other. Beaches, mountains, desert, plateaus, lakes, rivers, everything you could ever want to do. One of the prettiest states. The summers are to die for. Oh and we won the Super Bowl ;)
