Very nice! The new Dodge Ram 1500 diesel is getting high 30s on the highway in the right hands...

Why do you feel the need to justify buying the car? To save money is such a bs line. Just say you wanted the car. No excuses needed.

If it was about money. New accord or Camry >>> BMW. If you had to have AWD the new legacy >>>> BMW.

But since you wanted a BMW you found reasons to justify buying it. Nothing wrong with saying you bought it because you wanted it.

Nice car. I'd rock it.

that vid is great lol...but who really buys a BMW X6 for that.

No actually it was 100% about saving money...That's why we looked at a lot of cars including pricing out the KIA Optima and Ford Fusion's but i still wanted them to be nice and at the end of the day I'm not paying 380-400 a month to drive a Kia or a Ford..... and the BMW was the very last dealer i went too which happened to give me the best deal.

But on the flip side, yes like i said, I wasn't going to be happy driving a KIA as a CLEARLY stated in my post. I definitely will admit i want to drive something nice.

I wanted the best of both worlds, saving money and having a nice car. Which is exactly what i did. Lowered car payments, getting 2.5x the gas mileage i was getting and all my maintenance for free. My explanation is more a conversation I had with my wife and i was just explaining the reason for getting rid of the truck, not justifying it.

And since when did Subs get 40MPG?

As I said, I'm am definitely a truck guy, but try finding one of those Diesel Rams for less then $50,0000 and there are no incentives on the Diesels. I was actually going to wait until the 2015 Titan 5.0 Cummings Diesel comes out but i heard from a reliable source that they will only be offered in top of the line models, exceeding 50k with no lease incentives.

But 3-4 years from now who knows, maybe a nice used one will come to the Market.

Saving money is NOT leasing anything. lol You might be spending less, but you aren't "saving money".

I bought a 1997 civic hx to save money.

You bought a great car. Have fun. BMWs are nice. I love mine.

saving money is saving money regardless of how its done.

Could i sell my house and rent a $600/m shack instead of having a $2300 mortgage, yeap, can i buy a 1997 civic hx instead of having a $450/m car payment, yeap...can i eat ramon noodles every night....yeap, can i go without a phone, or internet or tv yeap...but why the hell would i want to live like that if there is no urgent need. We were just looking to save a little money here and there and at the end of the day that number is going to be $200 + a month. i don't mind having car payments I always have and probably always will. Again, saving money is saving money. I/E I have a phone, but i can still have a phone with a smaller payment, I lease a car , but i can still lease a car with a smaller payment and wayy better gas mileage, and free maintenance.....etc...I have cable/internet, bu ti can still have cable and internet with a smaller payment.....just little things here and there that in the end, make a significant difference...that's all I am trying to do.

Well that's good you're trying to make a dent in getting out of the rat race. Acknowledging you're going to always have those expenses is a big deal. Next step will be using that saved money to make money.

So how do you like driving it so far? I really love bmw's and I'm unsure on the diesel. Only been in an x5 diesel once.

Well I've only driven it 17 miles so far lol...but it's been a real delight....ultra smooth ride, quiet and seems to corner nicely :p. Compared to my Infiniti, it's a much better feeling ride and feels roomier. Bottom line is so far i love it.

So..i got two calls today from Lexus and Lincoln.....they magically found more equity in my truck and want me to come down to discuss the numbers... lol....really? The equity just magically appeared? Where the fuck was it when i was already there.

BMW of North Haven was a 1 shot deal. i told them what i wanted and it was either yes or no. No haggle, no back and fourth, it was actually one of the best experiences I have had at a dealership besides Middletown Nissan.

'better brand' dealerships have always been no BS for me too. The cheaper the dealer, the more annoying it seems. hyundai has actually been pretty good to me too. When i traded in my sti at land rover (who had the m3 in on a trade) it was pretty much, ok lets take your sti out and see what its like. this is the price of the car... they offered me a fair price on the sti and we easily settled on a price tag a couple grand lower than asking price on the m in about 45 seconds, and i was out the door a few handshakes later.

yup... the 2 hyundai dealers i dealt with it was about an hour process both times and felt satisfied. the used corolla... that was a 3 hour ordeal and my ass hurt for about 6 months.

I want a diesel. What was the sticker price on that?

sticker was 45,225

Judging by the title, you wanted people to come in here and hate on your new car... so i will. I really dont like bmws, or any german cars for that matter. And yes i have had significant time behind the wheel of many bimmers and mercs (worked in car dealerships for 6 years in my early 20s). Sure they are nice when new, but the substantial loss in value and the amount of shit that breaks on them after a few years is not worth it, plus i just dont like their style :)

that, and many of the people that drive them are dickbags.

yes because that's how most people are on this board.....tell me I am wrong?

Nice car

I wonder if the property tax will be more on this car offsetting a little of the savings.

I am waiting for some better mpgs in trucks before I get a new one. Bad thing is I heard Dodge is discontinuing the man pedal on the 2500 diesels.

You keep talking about your Infiniti.... Is this a car you used to have, or one you have now?

Looks like they start just under $40k, so under 50k should be doable. The Frontier is supposed to be getting a diesel soon too.

You get a new car every year it seems like. How long did you have that truck?

I remember you put a fairly substantial amount down on the truck as well. Seems like not shelling out all the up front costs on these things every year or 18 months would be the best way to save money.

Having said all that, it's your money and as stated above, as long as you're happy it's a good deal.

I like the car. The diesel thing is intriguing to me.

Nah, I only ever put like 1000-2000 as a down payment. But yeah that's how I roll so it's never an "Excuse" to get a new car. I just go out and get one but there are always all sorts of reasons why I buy one car or another. I put $50 a pay check into my car fund so I always have some kind of a down payment if I get a car.

Yeah Diesel intrigued me too. My buddy has had his 2012 Jetta TDI for 2 years now and he is killing it on MPG's getting 44MPG

I've owned two Audi's, a Mercedes and a Jetta GLI so obviously I like German cars lol.

Yeah I honestly never liked BMW's either, but I don't ever plan on keeping my cars for more then 2-3 years. So I won't ever have to worry about a car getting to that point where stuff breaks. I'm not really sure what cars these days would even be considered good and reliable past 5 years. I guess if you listen to Consumer Reports, Lexus is the way to go, but other then the ES 300Hybrid, there is no Lexus that really met my criteria, which was basically being able to get around 40MPG and ideally AWD but AWD wasn't a must. The BMW just happened to meet both of those but I would have rather had the Lexus. They just didn't want to offer a fair deal and either did Lincoln on the MKZ Hybrid.

.

It's not going to be anything significant, maybe a dollar a month, maybe 2. Nothing Alarming. It was $686 on this Truck this year. CT sucks with Property Tax

That looks really safe, you know, exceeding the speed limit and taking pictures and stuff.

You know that fuel gauges are non-linear, right?
