I know a lot of people here aren't BB fans but anyone watch the last game for Jeter at home? Unreal the way the storybook unfolds for this guy. It was pretty emotional for me. Been watching Jeter play since High School. It's just amazing what he has accomplished. I think it's even more amazing that he stayed away from any bad situations in his own personal life. Never a bad story in the media about Derek Jeter. He wasn't the best player ever but still, he may at some point in time, be considered the greatest.

Jeter knocks in the first run for the Yanks
Jeter knocks in the go ahead run
Jeter hits the walk off hit to give the Yanks the win

I think his retirement and the whole situation is magnified because of the team he played for. If he's playing for Tampa Bay or Minnesota his whole career, I don't think there would have been as much recognition.

Yes he did get the GWH, however, it was an 86mph meatball from the O's AAA pitcher. In any other situation, Buck would have IBB him to setup the double-play. So, you're welcome for that. The Meekster woke up to a ceremonious gift bag with the #2 on the outside

He was a great player nonetheless. Played the game as my idol did, #8 - Cal.

As an admitted O's fanatic, that was a gift of gifts. There aren't many games that I miss and Buck 99.9% would walk the guy after the sac bunt to setup the inning ending double play. Jonesy murdered that 2run HR after getting a pitch up and in.

Roger Clemens was on the radio with "douche and douche" this morning. They asked if he would "groove one for the old timer". He skirted the answer and basically said, "when i faced ripken, all i cared about was not going up an in. i didn't want to be the guy to break cal's face...and the streak".

If anybody was nervous, it was the pitcher. He lobbed one in for the Jeets.

Again, makes no sense. Why not just intentionally walk Jeter with your lefty already in the game and have him face the lefty McCann? Why make the switch to a right hand pitcher to face Jeter if he was trying to give him a gift... he could have left the lefty in and throw him a meatball without making the switch......

Huge baseball fan. Hate the Yankees with a passion but love Jeter just because of the way he has always played and carried himself on/off the field. Plus he's a native Michigander and almost went to U of M until the Yanks signed him.

If you compare him to some of his peers (A fraud comes to mind) it's easy to like the guy. Baseball and sports in general needs more guys like him.

Don't care about the x's and o's of that game last night, it was a cool ending regardless, and in 5/10/20 years nobody is gonna remember or care whether the guy grooved a pitch or not.

Basically respect for the previous pitcher (Saunders, great career, didn't want to have him hang his hat up on that pitch). Meek has some plus side however will be lost in the BP shuffle. Buck is a character guy. That's why.

I was at the game last Sunday, my brother was at the game Thursday. The place was packed and louder than I've ever seen it on Sunday. My brother said after the walk off, it was deafening. Glad I got to see him one last time.
