I have a ton of carbon buildup in my EGR valve and i'm wondering if the head is a mess as well. Car has 200,000 miles on it.

Do engine cleaners work if you directly pipe them into the brake booster line? (seafoam/wynns etc)

@civicious. I recall Wil saying any sort of additive is usually garbage.

i couldn't remember if he was referring to seafoam specifically or all of them. i'll have to check his thread. now that you mention it, i remember him saying he flushes the oil a couple of times and runs it. thanks for the reminder.

For your particular case, your only option is going to be to remove the EGR valve and clean it. With 200k, it probably isn't a bad idea to pull the head and send it to a machine shop to be cleaned, honestly. The flush I referred to in my RSX thread was in the crankcase, to clean up sludge deposits and whatnot - but that wouldn't do anything for buildup in the head/intake/exhaust. You're pretty much SOL on those fronts.

Sucking solvent in through a vacuum hose will do nothing for you. You can For the most part, additives are garbage.

Thanks for the input. I pulled out the EGR and cleaned it up pretty well. I wont waste my time with the crank cleaning.
