Test run went great. Spent the weekend camping on the cape. Car towed great! Liked seeing the faces of other Civic drivers when they saw what was pulling the teardrop.

Sad but true......with a FL trip in March time to evaluate the road worthiness of the Civic and it's tow reliability. It's been 3 years on the current JDM B18B and lots of teardrop towing plus 100,000 commuter miles during that run. I've noticed a considerable increase in oil consumption in recent months and even though the power is good I am looking to install the next JDM motor. I almost did a JDM B20 last time and am ready to get one now. I'm looking to get a JDM B20B 99-01 with high compression. I think this will suit my needs. From what I understand I will need to swap my B18B intake onto the B20 and everything else will be plug-n-play for my B series setup. If anyone has a B20 swap please let me know. I'd appreciate the information.

It looks like the JDM B20b 99-02 is the one I want. It has the higher compression. Now to find a good supplier.......

Here I go! Just ordered a JDM B20b with P8r head and high compression from J-Spec Auto Sports at the Virginia location. They are sending me pics and compression test results before shipping the motor.

I guess this thread should be labeled as B20b swap as well. Here are issues I ran into when converting from b18b to b20b in an EK:

- had to swap b18b intake manifold to the b20b. The high rise B20b intake would not fit under the EK hood.
- had to swap the B18b distributor to the b20b. The B20b distributor connector would not plug into the EK harness. Looks like all the dizzy internals will swap over though.
- purchased and installed a b18b dipstick tube and dipstick from Honda. The original b20b dipstick was too high to close the EK hood.
- the B18b front motor mount bracket, the one in the timing belt area, had to be swapped to the b20b.
Other than those items the swap went good. There is a knock sensor on the b20b but since I already modded the ECU to bypass the knock sensor(b18b) I left it as is.

Have a few questions, im in the middle of a b18b swap into a 96 civic ek non vtec.i have the correct mounts axels hoses and ecu for it i used the old d series harness put the motor in yesterday hooked everything up I have about 4 seniors plugs that im not sure where they go and two seniors on the intake one on the back and one on the front left sitting in the seat. I do not remember hooking any wiring up for the timing but it wont turn over when I turn the key I can touch the post on the starter and it will turn over but that's it. my lights and hassards work but my turn signals, radio and wipers do not. wiring isn't my strong suit. if anyone has any suggestions or can help at all it would be greatly appreciated.

Tyler, I do know if you follow this thread by reading my whole process, and your car was running when you started, you can have a running bswap when completed. One other note is that all parts being installed are good. With that being said, check your fuses to make sure you didn't blow one. I can't help much with troubleshooting without being there. Read my thread for intake sensor required connector mods for this swap.

Drove to my brother's place in Atwater, OH this past weekend. I was towing the 4x7 Thule trailer. I was on I80/I81/I84. I was surprised that the car pulled in 5th gear the whole way. No downshift for hills. No oil use to mention. Motor runs great. I am seeing a very intermittant P0170/P0171 code. Think it may be a dirty sensor connector.

Ok, I started gently pushing the wire harness around to find out if I had bad connection issue. Low and behold the IACV sensor connector caused a slight rough idle when I moved the sensor wires. Pulled the connector, sprayed deoxit into the connector and sensor, used compressed air to blow both out. Wiped everything dry, connected the sensor again and now no rough idle when harness is moved. Motor runs smoother as well. Did one 120 mile commute day and no codes thrown. First thing to look for is the obvious. Long live the B swap!

Next project: Tune the B20. Ok, so I've been having lean fuel check engine hits every 250 to 300 miles. I was concerned the JDM high compression B20b was not being controlled efficiently using the B18b OBDll ECU. I decided to grab an OBD1 ECU and tune the motor. I went to xenocron.com and purchased a chip kit and map for my car. I also went to mouser.com and purchased all new electrolytic capacitors. Old electrolytic caps can degrade over time(15 yrs) and finally short which leads to explosions on your ECU board....not good. I had to desolder all pin holes on the ECU and then install the chip kit. All went well. Removed all electrolytic caps and installed new ones. Went well. Plugged in the new xenocron B20b map and installed the OBDI ECU in my EK using an OBDI to OBDII adapter harness. She fired right up and runs smoother. Exhaust has a deeper frequency to it now. No check engine lights. I still have emissions every 2 years so i'll install the OBDII ECU long enough to pass. Good to go!
