groupon still works. I use it at least a few times a month for dining out. We've been all over the place trying new restaurants for half price.
sometimes we go back. that's the value to the restaurant. they don't make money on the initial dining experience.
i booked my Domincan vacation through a groupon deal as well. I had a 10% coupon code (up to $50) and I used ebates to make the purchase (6%) cash back so i got $100 back roughly on that too.
Good point Nick. I guess I never looked at it that way. The other issue is I live in a small town where most of the dinners and restaurants here cannot afford to give away 150 free meals at any point really. So my outlook is going to be a bit different than folks in much larger markets.

trust me, i shorted groupon stock a while back and made a couple dollars, but definitely didn't hold that position long. I've also personally met the CFO back when he was here in Seattle working at Amazon. i don't like the Groupon business model and i never really buy anything from it.
