I need to replace my cone filter on my car. it's beyond re-washing at this point (it can probably be saved, but i'm too lazy to bother with it for the price of a new one)

So, There's like 32432432 different types of universal 3" cone filters apparently.

Is there any advantage to this top

over the standard flat top?

And what about shape? it's steeper... is flatter better?

vs flat:

Or is it simply about fitting in the allotted area?

I'm leaning towards the 3580 right now.

this is what i have now:

Since cooler and a higher volume of air is better I would assume whichever flows the best would be better. They will all be in relatively the same place so I can't imagine any of them are cooler than the other.

brian i've got one new in box. if it fits you can have it for 20 bucks. it's a spectre for a 4 inch but can muzzle down to 3 and 3.5 .

i'm running a K&N drop in replacement OEM filter in the VT.

A velocity stack and filter is a possible combo. Probably get one that slips onto your existing pipe.

Meh, filter's a filter. I've used all sorts of different shapes and sizes, and at the end of the day, I'd recommend buying a 'better' brWand that won't fall apart over a lesser expensive one. Other than that, whatever. A velocity stack with a big ol' mushroom tip is what I went with when the race car was N/A, and I recall back in the day Philip / Intercrew / Mike saw some good gains from a velocity stack with a big ol' mushroom tip (which is the reason that I went with that on the race car).

Would recommend 3580 or that style (solid rubber top) over a 4650 or that style (metal glued-on top) as I've seen those come apart on high horsepower cars and cause more of my bills to get paid.

Get the biggest K&N you can shove in there. Some of them have built in velocity stacks now so you don't pay some hack job a ton of cash for an aluminum penis extension.
