I went last night for the first time. It was pretty cool. Amazing workout. Debating if I want to get into it or not. I'm trying to find an alternative to Jiu Jitsu since I've been having so many back issues. There is a bouldering gym near me that has a full indoor facility with yoga, weights, and fitness classes to accompany the climbing.
 
i went last month for the first time. but on an actual cliff face in some state park in PA lol. harnessed up and just climbed. I did fairly well I guess. made it to the top, 30-50ft? (after some careful contemplation at times lol). I was with a friend who's been doing it for 8 years though so i was in good hands. top rope + belay.

it's a lot more tiring than I expected lol. and i had not great shoes on for it. the special shoes seem to help a lot for grip.

I went a couple times before. It was pretty fun. My old roommates all did it pretty frequently. One of them a few days a week at least. He was in great shape. I like it a lot but as always I only have so much time for activities. Flag Football, Basketball, Lifting and golfing are keeping me in a continuous state of disarray.

I'm trying to find something the gf is interested in doing together. I have a big list of things I'm going through. Let me know if you get on a softball team. I would love to play this year.
 
Is the gf strong enough for that? seems like doing pull ups might now be her thing... heh

my gf is ~110lbs and zero upper body strength. she cant even do 1 pull up. she managed to climb ok. it is more about your legs than arm strength as BigJ mentioned. i really just use my arms to hold on while i push my body up with my legs. or pulled only a little while my legs did most of the work.

I didn't use my arms until I jumped across grips. Yeah...not what you are supposed to do as a beginner. I was hanging there like, "you fucking idiot, what are you going to do now?" Then I cheated and grabbed a gray grip. lol

true. i didnt workout at all from Oct-March. lost all of my strength. when i started back up I could barely manage 2 at a time lol. i'm back up to sets of 10-15 now on a good day. did a whole ladder set the other day (10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1). was surprised that I could complete it.

I've always been interested in doing this. Wonder if my fear of heights would make me puss out near the top of a cliff though.. lol
 
i have a slight fear. you def still feel it, even with the safety of a harness and rope lol. indoor gym probably not so much, but out on a real cliff its a bit scary lol.

I would start with indoor. walls are 10 feet-ish and you fall on a thick padded mat. my gf is afraid of heights and went up just fine. it was going down that's the hard part. (insert blowjob joke here)

I have rappelled down a 20ft wall before, does that count? lol.

a lot of the indoor places will do a super cheap trial period or beginner class. we went for $8 and it included shoes, chalk bag, and intro class. groupons and living social are also great options.
