Thought about posting this in the appropriate forum, but unfortunately the appropriate forum is quite dead.

Anybody owned or had experience with the 2001-2005 generation? The head gasket on the 95 Civic I've been DDing for the past 3 years has blown. I've got someone from a local forum offering a 2002 EX manual coupe and will give it to me for $1500.

Are these as reliable as most Civics? I just have ZERO experience with them. Apparently it's the same chassis as my RSX, but I know nothing about the D17 engines.

Thanks!

My old ladies D17 blew the head gasket every 80k miles.
The first time it got to the point that it would overheat, but the second time it just would not blow heat until above 2000 rpm's.
I tried to mill the head and do a HG on the first one, same result, so I ended up just throwing in a junkyard motor for $600 bucks.
I personally would rather do a motor or head gasket on your 95, but that's just me.

the 01 comes with the "premium" interior, ie brushed aluminum and black . the 02-05 gets the entire interior all the same color looks cheap.

worst car I have ever owned. that thing was a constant problem. if head gasket is your problem then just fix it bc you'll probably have the same issue with that generation. I will never own another one of those again, i should have just bought an old german car

throw in another d15b7 for $50?

I've thought about that, but it's becoming a huge rust bucket and it's a DX model, so no power locks/windows. I was hoping to get in to something a little nicer for a beater.

check out the link in his sig above.
you'll see my post in there about the old lady's car as well.

Yeah, I'm reading some other stuff about cooling issues on these cars as well.

Thanks guys. I might still check it out and have a look at the service records, but I'm thinking this may not be the best choice for me.

in my area these go for about 3k +/- there are many better options for that amount really. if youre wanting to stick with hondas maybe look at the accords or the next gen civic.

you can always go check it out and see if it has heat at idle, and coolant stop leak in the radiator?
and hopefully it still has a non-punched out/functional thermostat.
i wouldn't touch it, but if its half price...
My OL had hers new from 2002, had 150-160k on the clock and I think I let it go for $2000? after it had sat around for about 8 months and I wanted it our of my driveway before I had to shovel around it.
It has brand new snow tires on it. I think it booked for 4k at the time. Ex with auto trans. Body was clean.
