After many years, I finally bought a surround sound system for tv. Big whoop to you all I'm sure, but if you know me, I'm a tightwad...lol. it's a cheap system, but it works for my needs. It's an RCA 1000w 5.1 surround system I got at Wal-Mart for $160. I'm not sure it's a true 1000w, but it sounds decent for the money.

As long as it sounds good to you, that's all that matters. When I bought my new tv, i bought saving private ryan on blu-ray and hooked up the surround sound. The opening scene is intense. The bullets come from all different speakers. lol

I agree with get_nick, as long as you love it! I bought a sony 800 watts 5.1 Surround sound from my buddy on the cheap because he never used it. First thing I did was play Gears of War 3 and I heard sounds that I didn't even know in the game. Like hearing fire off in the freaking distance. I took 20 minutes just to walk around fire. LOL

Yeah I put Old School in my DVD player and you can hear birds chipping and wind rustling for example that you couldn't hear. Pretty cool!

At my condo I had nice Polk speakers including inwall rear speakers and an Onkyo receiver 5.1. I moved to an apartment after that and then at my house I never hooked it up and I don't miss it.
I should drag some of my stuff out of the basement to try it out again.

I went through 2 of those units in 3 years :/

Currently running a Boston acoustics sound bar with wireless sub. Works awesome and through optical.

i took mine down. took up too much space. been thinking about getting a soundbar

I've been looking at some of the sound bars I can get through work as well. With a little one its a little tough to run tower speakers. He likes to play with the ones at my folks place. My living room is pretty squared off too so a sound bar should work pretty well.

yeah i bought this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SMBGP76?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00

had great reviews, so i went for it.

TV is wall mounted and can tilt/rotate (which i use to point at my couch or bed)
Soundbar attached to TV, hanging below it, so it moves with the TV
subwoofer syncs with soundbar wirelessly via bluetooth
rear speakers hard wired to the sub
can use HDMI-ARC, or any other sound input to the soundbar, but i use an optical cable from the tv to the soundbar since my tv doesnt have HDMI-ARC.

just hooked it all up yesterday and it sounds great.

I've got surround sound in my living room and the game room. :) I love being able to crank up the volume and be fully surrounded in the deafening sound of awesomeness radiating from every direction of the room. Combine surround sound with the fact that my game room has a 108 inch HD projection screen makes watching movies way better than any movie theater. :)

I have to say I love my Denon 2100W, 7.1 surround with line level Zone 2 to provide audio outdoors on my deck. You should hear some of the new Dolby Atmos and DTS:X . The new rage is all about immersive audio.

and there's that....

really, i want to get a new tv and mount it over my fireplace, but don't know how, and don't want to run wires through bricks... i dunno. everything i tough i jus tmake worse so i stopped touching things :(

I hate that i'm not handy :(

Put up a false wall over the wall, run the cables between the real wall and false wall.

Or pay someone to do it.

Nice man I can't live without surround sound.

I just did some reconfiguring of my Home Audio myself. Back in 2007 I bought BIC Acoustech Cinema 6 Speakers....really just unreal for the price.

I ended up moving the Towers upstairs because I didn't have anything for up there.

Then I bought Definitive Technology Monitor 350's for down stairs for and used the BIC Surrounds as Fronts for downstairs.
